On 15th January, I personally visited Nandigram and launched this initiative, and what followed has been a deeply life-affirming journey. True public service is that which transcends barriers, sets aside political calculations, and devotes itself wholly to those in need. That is the true strength of Sebaashray. It has restored hope and dignity to people who had long felt neglected and unheard. Here, their voices were acknowledged, their concerns addressed, and their needs met with compassion and care. The love and blessings showered by the people of Nandigram will remain inscribed in my heart in golden letters. I salute every doctor, nurse, healthcare worker, and volunteer who selflessly shouldered this responsibility and took quality healthcare to people’s doorsteps. As long as the people of Nandigram remain in need, Sebaashray will return to serve them. That is my promise.

I have been seeing many photos of people handing out relief packages, and while this was necessary in the early days, I am concerned about how it affects the dignity of our people. I do not want Jamaica to be portrayed as a place where citizens are scrambling for food or fighting over packages. That is not who we are. We are an independent, proud people, even in times of hardship. If we are giving support, we must do it respectfully and quietly, protecting the dignity of those in distress. And those receiving help must also remember their dignity. This is why I announced that we will be transitioning away from handing out food packages. The system has become too politicized, who got, who didn’t get, and who was invited to distribute. That is not acceptable, and it is not the Jamaica we want to build. So we will move to a voucher or coupon system that allows people to purchase what they need directly, without stigma, without politics, and with their dignity intact.

Though the camps have concluded, their impact endures. From the Maheshtala Sebaashray 2 camps alone, seven elderly residents were referred and received complete dental treatment entirely free of cost. Moments like these stay with you. They reaffirm a simple but powerful truth that care must never become a privilege of youth or wealth, and dignity must accompany every individual at every stage of life. When support arrives without conditions or hesitation, it restores not just health, but trust, self-belief, and hope. And that is a responsibility I remain committed to carrying forward.

I consider it a profound privilege that the people of Diamond Harbour have entrusted Sebaashray with something as precious as their health. The first edition set new benchmarks in last-mile healthcare delivery, and Sebaashray 2 has carried that legacy forward with remarkable success. As we conclude the normal camps, I am filled with deep gratitude and fulfilment, having witnessed the overwhelming warmth, trust, and participation of our people. I salute every doctor, nurse, pharmacist, diagnostician, and volunteer whose dedication made this initiative possible. From 24th to 28th January, Mega Camps will be held simultaneously across all seven Assembly Constituencies of Diamond Harbour to further expand access and ensure continuity of care. I remain, always, a humble servant of the people who have blessed me with their trust and affection, and in every endeavour, their welfare will remain my foremost priority.
