There are three doors a child walks through that will determine their future: the front door of the home, the front door of the school, and the front door of the place of worship. If those three doors are not aligned, it impacts a child’s education and future. Today,...

You make some good and cogent points here, for which you should be given a degree of applause, but have you considered that you’re literally Rahm Emanuel? You’re not a political outsider, you were integral in the Democratic Party and its policy choices that have led us to where we are

You did such an amazing job with the Chicago Public Schools. You might not have improved outcomes, but at least you made life Hell for teachers and that will always get my approval.

Republicans might abandon public education in Democrat-run states like Illinois, because it has become a DEI Learing Center. But where they run things, like in Mississippi, they FIX public education so that it genuinely educates.

Now you suddenly care about education? Rahm Emanuel closed 50 Chicago public schools in 2013, making it the largest mass school closure in US history. The controversial decision by Emanuel and his appointed Chicago Board of Education forced thousands of displaced K-12 students, mostly from Black and brown neighborhoods on the South and West sides, to find new schools.

Got things a bit out of order there. Democrats abandoned standards and accountability in public education, leading Republicans to question the value of public education. (Lying by omission via sentence structure is a clever one, though.)

America and our students will not be able to compete with the rest of the world if we continue to accept failure. From Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Howell, Michigan, to Hanover, New Hampshire, what ails America’s schools can be fixed by what’s already working in America’s schools. We know what works to ensure every child receives a world-class education worthy of their future. Today our political leaders lack the chops to get it done.

The answer to our educational challenges will be found in Hattiesburg, MS, not Harvard, MA. In Mississippi, by adopting phonics-based reading, retraining teachers, and high standards for the students, Mississippi went from 49th to 9th in reading scores.

In Chicago, we made full-day pre-K and kindergarten universal for every child — regardless of where they lived, their ZIP code, or their family’s income. A child’s education should not depend on their address.

In Franklin, New Hampshire, I spoke with parents, teachers, students, and school principals about my plan to ban social media for children under the age of 16. Adults should be raising our kids, not algorithms.

At Spartanburg Community College in South Carolina and in La Crosse, Wisconsin, I saw community colleges serving both students, the workforce, and local industry — and watched entire communities prosper and watch the American dream become a reality. I met students learning skilled trades and machinery work and robotics who already had jobs lined up paying $30+ an hour with benefits. Let’s stop funding detention centers and start funding the economic backbone of America: our community colleges.

College used to provide a better future, today it is providing the burden of a lifetime of debt. The American Dream is becoming unaffordable and inaccessible — and that should be unacceptable to all of us. Restoring faith in America starts in our classrooms and our schools. That is the ticket to restoring faith in the American Dream and making it accessible to all.

I beg your pardon, as a Moderate, I don't believe the GOP has abandoned public education. What we are not putting up with is the social science nonsense (Penises in girls-only spaces and sports) and the bullshit from teacher unions.

You fool. The teachers' unions and democrats have destroyed public education, not Republicans.

Unfortunately, you are part of the Democrat Party that despises faith, family and home. You need to start a new common sense party. If not, you will be part of the new Democrat party that years for socialism and the destruction of religious freedom.

Very sensible thread. But you still publically support LGBTQ as being education, no? If so, then how can any of this hold water? It's like you're just playing a shell game.

"Republicans have avandoned public education" is a weird way of acknowledging that the public education systems of red states are producing higher test scores than the public education systems of blue states.

The 'science of reading' is defined, unlike wishy/washy Whole language. I respect you, but don't hold Repbulicans respondible for the failure of PS, that's on the Dems, they let the unions ruin PS & then turned a blind eye

“Today, 50% of our kids cannot read at grade level. Republicans have abandoned public education, Democrats have abandoned standards and accountability, and our kids are the ones paying the ultimate price.” The Democrats have abandoned standards and accountability because they send their kids to private schools.

Judging by the rising test scores in states like Mississippi and Alabama, and the declining test scores in states like California and New York, it would appear that the Republicans haven’t abandoned public education. They are the only ones trying to improve it.

Almost a good statement. But Republicans have not abandoned education. They have fought for parents to have a choice to send their children to schools that provide quality education. Democrats have fought that every step of the way. Democrats want kids in public schools. And the NEA and AFT run public schools for the benefit of teachers and Democrats, not for the benefit of the students.

Don't blame republicans. This is ALL on democrats. It started decades ago in democrat run big cities and when they gained state legislatures it was sealed, social promotion to eliminating standardized testing. Now public schools are simply indoctrination centers for left wingers.

Rahm this is you at your strongest with a message that can unite everyone regardless of party affiliation. Fight your inner TDS, your finger-wagging in people's faces, and the "angry fighter" the Left leans on to act tough. This is much more appealing and constructive.

How have you and @TheDemocrats served the children of Chicago, Memphis, and Baltimore, Rahm? How has black America fared under 70yrs of Democrat governance? Schools, crime, drugs, family...it's not that you're evil. It's that your incompetent, but somehow arrogant about it.
