Georgia is basically turning into one large data center Get ready for this, there is no legal obligation for data centers to disclose how much water they will be using - Georgia currently has about 162 data centers already - They have an additional 141 new data centers planned - Combined these data centers will use 12+ GW or more of power, this is equivalent to the usage of 10 MILLION homes - Combined water usage estimate of 35+ billion gallons per year or higher Absolutely insane There is no comprehensive federal requirement for data centers to publicly report detailed water usage. A bill was introduced called “the Data Center Water and Energy Transparency Act” to mandate reporting of energy and water consumption to states and the EPA This is an issue, here’s one example The Quality Technology Services data center in Fayette County used 29–30 million gallons of water went unmetered and unbilled for months without initial detection. Residents complained about low pressure during drought conditions. The company later paid retroactively $150,000 but faced no fines

Yesterday, I spoke out against data centers and AI layoffs at the Seattle City Council. Under mass pressure, the City Council passed a one-year moratorium on new hyperscale data centers. This is a victory for working people, but one year is far from enough. My independent socialist campaign for Congress is the only one in this election fighting for an end to hyperscale data centers, for democratic public ownership of all existing data centers, and for a public-sector living wage jobs guarantee, funded by taxing the rich, to counter the AI-related mass layoffs. #datacenter #socialist #independent #ai #freepalestine

I think the discussion about data centers in space is to address another potential bottleneck in the ecosystem, which is energy. I think the discussion around putting data center in space is there because if you do that, the energy consumption or the energy availability will be there, about trying to solve another potential big issue, which is energy for data center. I think the Terafab is an example of a major fab project."

There is a new massive 300 megawatt hyperscale AI data center proposed by a Netherlands-based company being put right next to a new medical and rehabilitation campus for injured, abused and recovering animals The data center would be only 1,100 feet away This new huge data center would impact the animals because of constant noise, vibrations, light pollution, heat and other disruptions. This would be especially bad for stressed, recovering, or sensitive animals The AI data center is claiming by the company to produce no increase in ambient or background noise levels at the property line or nearby areas They say “The facility will not exceed current background/ambient noise in the area” I wouldn’t believe this for a second, we’ve all seen how loud these hyperscale AI data centers are The location is in Alabama and the Greater Birmingham Humane Society is who’s speaking out because this data center is being proposed right next to their new proposed animal treatment facility This should not be allowed to happen
