A Brit over here on an extended sojourn once asked me to explain tipping. How do you tip, when is it appropriate. But really, he wanted to know, why do we tip? I said, "OK, have you been to a restaurant here?" He said he had taken his wife to Outback Steakhouse. You know, another one of our many chains, usually in the middle of a big mall parking lot. "What was the service like? How was the meal? "It was fantastic," he said. His face actually lit up. "The food was great. The waitress could not have been more attentive. Kept asking of everything was good, did we need anything else." "OK, how's that compare to Britain?" He described a meal in a country pub, which he said is supposed to be a good experience. But the waitstaff was smoking cigarettes at the kitchen door, ignoring them, and when the steak arrived, it was burned. I said, "Well, there you go. The waitress and cook here know their income depends on your satisfaction." He had this look on his face he had suddenly been struck by some deeper truth. Gobsmacked, I believe the Brits call it. Dawn over Tokyo, we say over here. He also wanted to know about all the American flags. Flying in front of houses. Stickers on trucks. All that. In those days, they weren't flying British flags the way they do now, touting nationalism and British values in response to a foreign invasion. I just told him, "We love this country. It's ours. It belongs to us. The flag reminds us of that. And it's how we tell people that."

Who knew the best part of the World Cup would be all the content from the Europeans living it up while in America. Love it!

I’ve been disappointed with Chick-fil-A the last couple times and will not be going back!! The size of their tenderloins are ridiculous especially for what they charge!! They each supposed to weigh 1.6 to 1.7 ounces.
