@colincowherd I’m all for calling Herbert overrated and pushing back against the hype behind him the last few years but that team is a mess. Everybody has tuned out Harbaugh, the defense stinks, and the o-line + receivers have been bad.

What’s going on with Herbert is not a talent drop. It is a 0-2 start in a brand-new offense, with the line leaking and the ball on the ground. He is still one of the most physically gifted quarterbacks in the league. He just crossed 25,000 career passing yards, the fourth-fastest in NFL history. Through two weeks in 2026, none of that is showing up. He is 32 of 54 for 401 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. 59.3 percent. 71.6 rating. ESPN QBR 29.3, 31st in the league. The Chargers have lost twice by the same score, 26-14, to Arizona and Las Vegas. Mike McDaniel is already his fourth offensive coordinator. The new system wants the ball out on rhythm, not the vertical shots Herbert has lived on. That timing is not there yet. Three turnover-worthy plays in two weeks. The protection he was supposed to have is not there either. Tyler Biadasz went down in camp. Joe Alt had a brutal Week 2, including four penalties and a holding call in the end zone that became a safety. Herbert has been sacked six times. Against the Raiders he fumbled three times. The Chargers fumbled six. He is not getting much help downfield. Three drops in the first half against Vegas. David Njoku bobbled one into an interception, then left with a knee injury. No Chargers receiver went over 53 yards. Last year he dragged an injury-wrecked roster into the playoffs while getting hit 129 times and sacked 54. The arm is not the problem. The operation is. Buffalo is next, undefeated. 0-2 going into that game is how a season gets away from you.
