Friendly request ... third grade proficiency is not the goal ... Reading begins with the love of books ... I love the video and appreciate the sentiment BTW but I worry about the rhetoric around reading

- and we hear of inspectors saying that there should ONLY be phonically decodable books in reception/Y1 classrooms. The love of books is a great precursor to learning to be a proficient reader.

This is the anti-ICE walkout held by Stone Mountain High School in Georgia. Here are some stats about SMHS: Math proficiency: 11% Reading proficiency: 24% Graduation rate: 76% (Not sure how 76% graduate when they can’t read or do math.) But the teachers and administrators think a walkout was a good use of their class time.
