Friendly request ... third grade proficiency is not the goal ... Reading begins with the love of books ... I love the video and appreciate the sentiment BTW but I worry about the rhetoric around reading

- and we hear of inspectors saying that there should ONLY be phonically decodable books in reception/Y1 classrooms. The love of books is a great precursor to learning to be a proficient reader.

This is the anti-ICE walkout held by Stone Mountain High School in Georgia. Here are some stats about SMHS: Math proficiency: 11% Reading proficiency: 24% Graduation rate: 76% (Not sure how 76% graduate when they can’t read or do math.) But the teachers and administrators think a walkout was a good use of their class time.

Bring back the 3rd grade reading guarantee: if you can’t read by the end of 3rd grade, then you don’t go to 4th grade until you can. Great discussion at dinner for the College of St. Joseph the Worker.
