A routine traffic stop turned into something much bigger after one small license check. An officer ran the license plate on a vehicle and learned the registered owner, Valerie, had a suspended driver's license after failing to pay a traffic ticket. After stopping the vehicle, Valerie appeared genuinely surprised that her license had been suspended. As the conversation continued, the officer noticed she seemed unusually anxious and that one of her hands showed signs of physical wear. Valerie explained she had been doing construction work on a house, but the officer believed her behavior and the marks on her hand warranted further investigation. A second officer arrived to assist, and Valerie was placed under arrest for driving with a suspended license. Because no licensed driver was available to take the vehicle and it was being impounded, officers conducted a standard inventory search—a procedure used to document the contents of a vehicle before it is towed. A gun and a felony amount of fentanyl now off the streets. 🚨 Last week on the 29th, at about 4:52 a.m., D1 officers, utilizing our flock camera systems, were alerted to a stolen vehicle near N. Peoria and E. 23rd Ave. Officers attempted to stop the truck, the driver had other plans... That's when the pursuit started.➡️ Stop sticks were deployed near E. 11th along Peoria which deflated two of the truck’s tires. That didn’t stop the truck either. Finally, a PIT maneuver was conducted and two people were taken into custody. A firearm was located in the vehicle along with a felony amount of fentanyl…a lethal combination. ◾The driver: 32-year-old Werner McKay was arrested on charges of eluding, motor-vehicle theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. ◾The passenger: 34-year-old Ashley Carrasco was arrested on charges of trespassing and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. This is why we pursue. Drivers who refuse to stop rarely have nothing to hide. This is also why technology like flock cameras are necessary tools for 21st century policing. He was later arrested in February by another service when he was in possession of another stolen vehicle. He was placed on conditions intended to prevent him from committing further vehicle thefts. This did not stop him from attempting to steal another vehicle. The second part of the video is from early March, when DRPS officers attended a stolen vehicle in progress call. After a brief foot pursuit with our K9 Unit, NAOUAI was arrested and held for bail. Can't stop, won't stop. On Thursday, during the height of rush hour, a vehicle theft suspect decided it was a good idea to try and run from the police. He sped through heavy, busy intersections attempting to avoid us and get away. When his car finally came to a stop, he booked it out of the vehicle. But APD? Can't stop, won't stop. Our officers were right on his heals and nabbed him in less than 25 seconds. Cory Thompson, 36, was subsequently arrested on charges of motor vehicle theft, felony eluding, criminal possession of a financial transaction device, possession of dangerous drugs and driving without a license. Shockingly, this wasn’t the first time Thompson had a run-in with APD. Dating to Christmas Day 2022, we’ve arrested Thompson SEVEN times. All seven of those arrests involved stolen vehicles that were either taken from members of our community or our neighbors in the Denver metro. Heck of a run, but not fast enough. Good Samaritans in Jacksonville, Florida intervened last month as a mother tried to stop a man from driving away from her 2-year-old and 6-month-old in a DMV parking lot. “Investigators determined the man was driving off against the woman’s will, dragging her and one of the children through the parking lot,” the sheriff’s office said. New: Two Teens Arrested in Macon After Theft and Shooting A Ring camera captured two masked teens pointing firearms at the front door while one snatched scooters from the porch. Moments after leaving with the scooters, the two fired at a nearby vehicle. The driver was not injured. Seventeen-year-old Brandon Marquez Mitchell and a 15-year-old were later caught in possession of the scooters. Mitchell was already wanted for armed robbery. Mitchell is charged with armed robbery with no bond. The juvenile is charged with aggravated assault, theft by taking, possession of stolen property, interference with government property, and possession of a firearm by a minor.

After speaking with the suspect and during a search of his belongings, officers located a loaded firearm. Officers searched a second individual associated with the suspect and located another loaded firearm and marijuana. A third associated suspect was also later arrested after officers were able to trace the trio back to a nearby vehicle where additional quantities of marijuana and drug paraphernalia indicative of sales activity was located. The driver (a Denver resident) was arrested and charged with: •Motor Vehicle Theft (F4) •Assault in the Second Degree – Peace Officer (F4) •Vehicular Eluding (F5) •Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (DF4) •Reckless Endangerment (M2) •Unlawful Possession of Schedule III, IV, V Controlled Substances (DM1) •Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (DPO) •Driving Under Restraint (Traffic Offense) •Failure to Obey Traffic Signal (Traffic Offense) •Driving on Wrong Side of Roadway (Traffic Offense) •3 Counts – Violation of Protection Order (M1) •Criminal Possession of a Financial Device (M2) Additionally, the suspect had 2 active felony warrants and 2 misdemeanor warrants. “Outstanding teamwork by our deputies brought this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion. Let me be clear: criminals are not welcome in Douglas County. If you come here to commit crimes, we will pursue you, and we will catch you. This is the moment an Armed Response Team was rammed while trying to stop a stolen car last night in west Belfast. The car was stolen at 1am in Ards before appearing on the Falls Road. The driver, a man aged 29, and his two male passengers, aged 30 and 35, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of offences including aggravated taking and driving away and causing damage to a vehicle. The driver was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified and driving with excess alcohol in breath. They remain in custody at this time. Belfast Telegraph
