This developer uses the unique biological patterns mapped from a quail bird eggshell to produce pure random numbers for a secure bitcoin wallet private key generation. The tool is an open source HTML file that works with no internet required

Neat. The Coldcard case showed the entropy source only helps if the firmware actually uses it.

Quail eggshell patterns generating Bitcoin private keys. Randomness sourced from nature itself. Wild but brilliant. ₿

Yeah. Because this is how we get to mass adoption...what are we doin' here....

creative idea but how secure is that randomness really

I don't think quail eggs are actually random. A black spot is more likely to be adjacent to a black spot and white is more likely to be adjacent to white.

Cool build, but entropy was never the weak link. Every fund custody loss that's actually been written up traces back to key management process, multisig misconfiguration, or phishing, never a bad RNG. Perfect randomness defends against a threat model almost nobody hits.

The fact that it works offline makes the concept even more interesting

Essa ideia de usar padrões biológicos para gerar chaves privadas faz sentido, pois resolve o problema de sementes aleatórias de forma offline.

the hard part was never generating random numbers. it's figuring out what those patterns actually prove about the limits of pseudo-random number generators

Using unique biological patterns from a quail eggshell to generate true cryptographic entropy for a Bitcoin private key highlights the fascinating intersection of nature and digital sovereignty

Quail eggshells for randomness? wild times in keygen.

the source was never the hard part. coldcard shipped a real hardware rng with a dice path bolted on top and still failed in the plumbing between them, because a build flag was checked for existence instead of value. an eggshell doesn't touch that layer. novel entropy sources mostly move where a silent fallback gets to hide.

What a waste of his time reinventing the wheel. Just use Bitcoin Core, which generates secure keys with ease.

Who knew quail eggs could scramble security fears? Nature’s code is surprisingly innovative.

Blockstream Bitcoin Hardware Wallets have Anti-Exfil. Anti-Exfil adds another layer of security by forcing the device to include random data in signatures, preventing attackers from slowly guessing your private keys. With ECDSA (the digital signature algorithm used in Bitcoin), a random private key is combined with a nonce, which is a one-time value intended to add randomness to the signature to ultimately produce a transaction signature that can be validated by other users’ Bitcoin full nodes. Anyone can guess your private key based on your signatures without this random nonce, which is as bad as it sounds! Compromised hardware wallets could create a nonce that appears random but is not. The nonces could be known to an attacker ahead of time. Even worse, the hardware wallet could leak parts of the user’s master private key into individual nonces, which would allow the attacker to guess every private key given a sufficient number of signatures. Anti-Exfil uses “sign-to-contract” to ask Jade to use its signature nonce while cryptographically committing to some random data proposed by the (assumed uncompromised) host computer. The random data’s hash is then combined with the signature nonce to produce the signature. By use of this protocol, the nonce is re-randomized, thus preventing the attack.
