In this drill with my dad, he’s forcing me to move my feet and get around the ball to keep everything moving forward quickly- no backhand. This is the biggest difference between baseball and softball which is the speed of the game and how you play certain balls.

The reason Ruben Amorin needed “legs or ground eater” was because he never believed in players playing close to one another and keeping the ball for a long time. We often launched the ball to our strikers to beat press, he did the same at Sporting CP with Gyokeres and that caused our team needing to run so much because when we lose the second ball, we were in trouble.. It’s more about athleticism to him than techniques.. He never wanted players that are comfortable on the ball instead he likes players that can pick long passes so they can move the ball as quickly forward as possible and that’s why he never rated Mainoo.. Now Carrick has a different approach to football which is for players to play close to one another, take regulated and calculated risk instead of throwing the ball in the air at every chance which limits his need for “ground eaters” and increases his needs for actual ballers, guys that are comfortable on the ball and know how to pass it at the same time.

Here’s the part they won’t show you about Mbappé’s intelligence; He sees Carreras with the ball, very quick subtle glance at the box, he sees 7 Bilbao players , and he immediately knows he is outnumbered. What does he do?, he separates himself from that unnecessary duel ( he does this every game btw), and waits for a cut back ( he hardly gets a cut back for obvious reasons 😂) Carreras instead of going to the byline, delivers the cut back, Mbappé does his trademark shimmy to the right and scores his 6th goal from outside the box this season. Again, give your striker the ball where and when he asks for it, he gets a goal, you get an assist. It’s not rocket science. Hope this helps 😘.
