This fire is bad for the forest that is already devastated by the hurricane melissa

I suspected this was going to happen at some point. 1. The canopy is gone & will be drier 2. A lot of dry wood & leaves 3. Ppl will be using fire to cook (greater chance of embers) 4. Ppl will use fire to clear debris 5. Some people will take the opportunity to clear new land

Maybe this is a sign to do some controlled burning of damaged forest areas to help trigger regrowth and also prevent widespread wildfires

Im of the view this was started by human hands. Maybe not deliberately

Is it bad for the forest itself or for the surrounding areas? Slash and burn? Primary succession? This might be necessary for reaforestation but the surrounding communities are in danger of being enveloped/engulfed. Time will tell.
