AR is overated and overhyped. Hasn't done justice to all that huppla that is being used for him.

One more song from Movie "Karz" is same with so many meters... Paisa ye paisa, nahi koi aisa, jaisa ye paisa, ye ho musibat, na ho musibat.. ho musibat, na ho musibat 7-8-9-10

Before that Learn about Mohd Rafi, Mukesh, Manna Dey, KL Saigal, Geeta Dutt etc and SD Burman before RD Burman

Lol. Comparing ARR to rd burman is like comparing Tendulkar to any other Indian batsmen Futile. Arr is god. Like sachin.

you can make anybody your god.. that's your prerogative.. but if you ask ARR himself to rate himself wrt rd burman, even he will laugh at you.. almost all legendary music directors (even his contemporaries) since the 60s/70s have sweared by rdb and have accepted about his influence in some way or other.. his songs have outlived 5-6 decades and still dominates the reels, playlists and radio channels.. his songs are recreated, remixed, replugged the most.. his songs, preludes and interludes are used the most in the Ads.. most number of tribute shows by singers and performers are of rd burman.. legacy of many have diminished over the time.. his legacy is only becoming stronger with time.. if people talk about arr in the same breath after 30-40 years, he could qualify for any comparison..

I don't think arr would aspire to be rd. Anyone close to his level genius? Illayaraja.

Illayaraja close to ARR? ARR has to take 10 births (after converting back) to come near the achievements of Illayaraja.. with his tenure & volume of work.. his consistency over the decades and strike rate of good/hit songs.. his reluctance to only remain in south notwithstanding

@arvindsudarshan The evolution of technology also plays a role. In today’s upgraded sound technology, RD would have created more magic. When he came he created a new sound and sensibility that didn’t exist till then. AR is great too but the Burman father and son are legends at another level.

@coolfunnytshirt Arr never faded. It's about 30 years+ Rd faded. Till his last Hurrah he was pedestrian for a while.

@coolfunnytshirt Albums like Gardish, Libaas, Ijazat, Sagar were not hits then, but were classics. ARR has been lackluster for some time now including his recent Mani Ratnam collaborations. Am huge AR fan, but always thought of him as next RD, but not better. Not easy to be at top for so long.

@coolfunnytshirt Thats wishful thinking. Fact is Rd was on a downward slope. Till his last ball.

BTW ARR himself considers RD SD Madan Mohan Naushad as his Idol which actually an example of his humbling nature.

During 70-80-90s ppl had time to listen to music. Now a days no one has no one remembers music composers but ARR still working that is what makes him great. RD literally was out of work dur tonhis mediocre music in late 80s till 1942 love story came. ARR is never out of league

Profilbild von dhanesh shastri
dhanesh shastrivor 3 Monaten

RD was no doubt amazing but he copied as well. Also he given so many mediocre compositions as well in 80s and late 70s which we never talk about. And Kishor Da? No doubt a versatile personality but over hyped like kumar sanu in 90s

Now comparing ARR & RD ? They both are phenomenal trensd setters but I would consider ARR better due to his range and span and versatility. The genre he did is unparalleled and cannot be compared with RD. Just an example, RD career lasted for 20 yrs ARR still here since 35 yrs
