Scott on why conviction in an idea is dangerous as an investor but required as a founder: "From the investor seat, I don't think you want to be in love with an idea. That's a risky thing because you'll find a way to express that by investing and make some compromises on the team because you know this idea is just so good, its time has come. But if the team isn't there, 90% of the time it doesn't work. Then there's a whole thing can you swap out the team? But the whole Founders Fund thesis was always no, you need the founder to run the company. But on the company side, you have to be in love with the idea. It's not that rational to start a company. There's a lot easier, more comfortable ways to make money if that's the goal. So it's got to be about what the company is doing specifically. If you want to actually start a company, it better be something that you're really passionate about, or you think that the problem is really important."

THE ECONOMICS OF A FIREWOOD BUSINESS Do you know what the net profit margin is on a firewood business? 85% And I know that because I've talked to dozens of people running these businesses and the numbers are wild This is exactly how it works: 1) You can get firewood for free or extremely cheap. People are literally paying tree companies like mine to get rid of trees. You show up with a truck, you haul it away and they're thanking you for it. 2) Then you split it, you stack it and you season it for a few months and sell it for $300 to $600 per cord. Startup costs are almost nothing, a chainsaw, an axe or a log splitter and a truck and you can rent a log splitter for $70 a day. You could be in this business for under $800. Some people start with even less by borrowing equipment and this is perfect because the demand is consistent. People need fire wood every single winter. It's not a fad, it's not going away and it's local and in the summertime you sell to the barbecue enthusiast. You're not competing with Amazon or big corporations, you 're competing with maybe three other guys in the area that don't even know what a website is. The work is physical but it's simple, you're going to the gym anyway. Cut, split, stack, deliver. No complicated systems, no tech skills required. You run this entire business from your phone with a Facebook marketplace and a Craigslist ad and winter's coming. The kicker is that you build up a customer base and then they come back every single year. So it's recurring revenue without a subscription model. People find a firewood guy that they trust and they stick with them forever. You could realistically do $50,000 to $150,000 a year seasonally working part-time. I'm stumped why more people aren't doing this.

You’ve probably learned by now that I am a believer in the genius of all children - and while this one is no exception, I want to take a moment here to spotlight the equal genius of her parents. While not pictured in this video, their presence looms large here. How did this precocious little one come to be such an adept counter? The answer is almost certainly that her parents have taken the time to expose her to many such opportunities. And you can do the same. Look for opportunities to count with your child. As you climb the stairs, as you clean up toys, as you cook… the opportunities are endless - and made all the more meaningful as you’re able to connect them not just to memorized (or “rote”) counting aloud, but real world opportunities to explore number and quantity. Notice how this little one has (mostly) established that with each step comes one and only one number. This is from today's #WCWS game. This was ruled a base hit when it happened (you can see the 'H' pop up), but was changed to a missed catch error by the first baseman at the bottom of the fourth. This is an impossible catch for the first baseman with a ball thrown from that angle, that hard. This throw has to be to the glove, and while it's not a wild throw, it's low enough that the first baseman cannot get her glove around it in time. This is where replay gets you in trouble. The slo-mo replay makes it look like it's a catchable ball, but it isn't. In real time, at live speed, this isn't an error. This isn't a missed catch or a drop. I was loving the call of a single, especially because it was the first hit, and then, when it was changed, it felt like it was to protect a no-hitter. Everything about this screams "above ordinary effort" ... I would have left this as a single.

AI music is cooking. Here is the latest from Aimi. It is aimed more toward developers and music professionals than, say, Suno or udio. Check out the demo, which starts about 33 minutes into this interview with founder Edward Balassanian. In it he shows that you can import a video that has no audio and it makes both a voice over and the music to match the content. This leads to very personalized video. If you are in India, you might get a bollywood track, all aligned to the video. In US a viewer might get served with something closer to the Rolling Stones. This is a huge trend that's just starting. Hollywood is funding another company, Corto AI, that will do this for movies and already is doing similar for advertisers (it launches next year). Just mind blowing stuff that makes creating videos with music backgrounds so much easier.

Forest fires are “climate change” & Carney is more worried about the “carbon” that was released than the people & businesses that were affected. He also says worrying about the climate will make your business more competitive & they will force you to be part of the solution & if you don’t you can bet banks will refuse to do business with you. This is GFANZ & this grifter is one of the architects who will get immensely rich off of it. These people in my opinion are criminals.
