Yeah, we used to this way during high schools. Also very effective when we are preparing for competitives. Normally works for 9, 99, 999, etc.

I am aware of Vedic maths, but this seems next level.

isn't it easier to multiply by even 10, 100, 1000 and so on and then subtract first number? 23*99=23*100-23. i think your method is over complicated, still fun to learn new ways tho.

It's only correct if you multiple by 9s , and if the number in the right bigger than the one in the left
