Guten Tag, you Allied Schweinhund. Exactly 34 years ago today, Wolfenstein 3D was unleashed on the world. The mangled bits of pseudo-German (Mein Leben!) made this game an instant classic. I always thought it added even more smiles for native German speakers, because the digitized speech snippets were just so hilariously nonsensical. In retrospect, thank God they didn't use native speakers for the German sound bits… we wouldn’t have the same epic memories of it today! Unloading on Hitler with a Gatling gun at the end - Wolfenstein 3D is pure early 90s gold!

He created music and sound effects for many classic PC games, especially those published by Apogee or developed by id Software: id Software titles: Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny, Doom, Doom II. Apogee/3D Realms titles: Duke Nukem II, Duke Nukem 3D, Blake Stone, Rise of the Triad. His Doom soundtrack is especially legendary. It blended heavy metal/hard rock influences (inspired by bands like Black Sabbath, Pantera, and Alice in Chains) with the technical limits of early PC audio. Tracks like "E1M1 (At Doom's Gate)" became hugely influential and were even added to the U.S. Library of Congress National Recording Registry in 2026. Play the video to listen to it once more.
