Dave Smith’s DSA analysis is not good, which is shocking given how confidently he talks about it, the fact that he is a libertarian, and his ties to New York. Dave treats all of this like little-d little-s “democratic socialism,” as if these are just welfare liberals who are not really socialists and occasionally latch onto whatever issue is trending. But DSA is not randomly latching onto wokeism, Bernie, Gaza, Iran, or Lebanon. These positions flow from a worldview. When DSA “latches onto” something, whether it is anti-ICE activism, Gaza, or labor militancy, it is usually because the organization wants to operate inside the broader movement space and pull those fights into its socialist project. Libertarians should be the people most interested in getting this right. If your opponents are openly trying to put government, unions, and socialist institutions into every corner of economic and civic life while building a democratic socialist republic, you should probably know what they actually believe.

Morgan comes off like a dinosaur. And if he is serious about taking back his party, whoever is advising him on how to talk about DSA is doing him no favors.
