Model routing saves real money. Sonnet 5.5 does more than people expect, I compared it with GPT-6 Sol here:

routing grunt to Sonnet saves cash until the subagent silently upgrades itself mid-task. tip: lock model + max tokens in the spawn config and fail closed if the harness renegotiates.

Routing tasks properly cuts token costs way down.

The part I’d watch is the reviewer’s cadence. Having the stronger model speak only before a plan, on repeated errors, and before “done” keeps it out of the hot path while still catching expensive mistakes.

or here me out, just use Opus 5.5 medium for everything

fable 5.1 sitting idle while opus burns on grunt work is such a wild waste of cash.

Opus on grunt work is a token tax. Morning: route multi-file sweeps to Sonnet 5.5 subagents, keep Opus on plan/merge, put Fable on /advisor verify. If Opus still touches routine edits, your router isn't real — fix the handoff, not the model.

Useful tip. I burned the expensive model on grunt work for weeks before I admitted it does not need to file every paperclip. Routing is half the job once you stop treating one model like a personality.

关键是别让 Opus 去干杂活,省下来的真不少

A good model stack is like a well-run kitchen: reserve the head chef for decisions, and let the prep work flow to cheaper stations.

Routing models like a pit boss routes dealers. The mailer game is the same math-spread the work, keep the EV. - DVH

也试了一下,效果如下

No warning when the advisor stops getting called. The whole tree is config

Claude Code optimise bien ses coûts avec Opus en principal et Sonnet pour la base. Efficace sans se ruiner

I get the cost-saving strategy, but relying too much on subagents can introduce errors
