For rain-fed agriculture, whenever the rains arrive and it is time to sow the Rabi crop, the farmers gather all of their oxen and jointly plough each other's fields. In this way, even very large tracts of land can be ploughed with ease. This collective practice of ploughing is called "Ashar" in the Balochi language. Under this tradition, farmers take turns working together to plough each other's land. It is a centuries-old custom that has been preserved from generation to generation. Likewise, when the crops ripen, the farmers of the entire area work together, helping one another with everything from harvesting to threshing.
