In the remote areas of the Republic of Balochistan, farmers still plough their fields using oxen. The people of these regions work together in unity. For rain-fed agriculture, whenever the rains arrive and it is time to sow the Rabi crop, the farmers gather all of their oxen and jointly plough each other's fields. In this way, even very large tracts of land can be ploughed with ease. This collective practice of ploughing is called "Ashar" in the Balochi language. Under this tradition, farmers take turns working together to plough each other's land. It is a centuries-old custom that has been preserved from generation to generation. Likewise, when the crops ripen, the farmers of the entire area work together, helping one another with everything from harvesting to threshing. Even today, in the remote regions of the Republic of Balochistan, crops are irrigated solely by rainwater. Instead of using modern threshing machines, farmers still use oxen to separate the grain from wheat and rice crops. Do people in your area also come together and plough their fields in this way?
