This is how they made Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) with minimal CGI. Out of the 2-hour-plus movie, there are only 42–43 CGI shots, totaling just 5 minutes of digital screen time. 🤯

Practical movie effects will forever be more impressive to me than CGI!

Adam Jones, guitarist of Tool, worked on effects for T2 at Stan Winston Studios.

We will never see such films again. People of a certain age should be thankful we lived through a golden age of cinema and original films. Now its all CGI regurgitated crap

And the movie still looks amazing 35 years later

What’s also cool about this is that they knew too much CGI would make the audience not take it seriously.

Damn I miss old school CGI, when they actually put in work for props.

Somehow I feel like the old movies before the CGI era are much more realistic than the current ones

Practical FX > CGI > AI bullshit all day

Classic and legendary period sheesh

To this date still the most relevant most brilliant SFX movie of all time. Still stands alone now

James Cameroon is a genius. No one else in the world could manage what he created with his creative ideas. Changed cinemas and lives forever. There will be no other movie like T2 ever. 35 years on you can still watch it and won't realise it's from an older era.

This is why I love having Stan Winston's auto, what amazing work his whole team did.

That's really cool and it shows how creative they were. CGI is cool, but props and creativity is even better.

CGI is good because you can make it behave naturally. I mean, AI is good as well, but it's missing the human touch

The practical effects in T2 still look better than most modern CGI 🔥 If you’re doing a Terminator rewatch (especially with family) and want to skip the sex scene in the first one + the partial nudity in T2, the timestamps are here: Terminator 1 → Terminator 2 →

Check out this Cosplay of the T 1000 at Con!

Hey @grok how many ethnic Jewish people helped make this movie?

Now they make everything look like CGI shit and it's 10 times more expensive at the box office.

the practical effects still hold up better than most cgi from that era

The golden era of cinema was 80´s-90’s !!

This scene in Terminator 2 isn't CGI or trick photography. It was achieved by using Linda Hamilton's identical twin sister Leslie to appear in scenes where the T-1000 morphed into Sarah Connor.

Modern movies need to take note on this

Back when people had patience to create

That seamless blend of physical craftsmanship and early digital tech is why T2 still puts modern green-screen blockbusters to shame. 🤣

It’s amazing what they achieved with so little CGI. Terminator 2 is still a masterpiece.

That's why 34 years later it looks extremely far better than 99% CGI movies today.

CGI was in its infancy when T2 was made. 42-32 CGI shots is maximum that could b done at the time. In fact, James Cameron specifically made T2 due to the then-advancements in CGI over what ILM did in The Abyss. He wanted to do more in T2. CGI is fantastic when done right.

Practical effects are so superior!!

why the stupid music, it's not even relevant

Absolutely incredible great footage! Proud of my generation and their ability to bring imaginations to life without cell phones or computers! What if? What happens when?

I worked for Stan Winston. These people were awesome.

I'm freaked out still. That's wonderful

It's funny, I saw a lot of behind-the-scenes footage but I never saw the movie. Terminator fans are so unbearable
