A quiet southern Minnesota town A local woman was alone in her car, observing and recording ICE activity in her community. Three federal vehicles begin chasing her, and try to force her to pull over. The agents open her car door anyway, drag her out, force her to the ground, and handcuff her. This is all happening while she is unarmed, and alone on a country road. An ICE agent dismisses him outright and says, “I’m not getting into the legality of everything.” Read that again. A federal agent, pointing guns at civilians, openly says they are not concerned with legality. ICE puts this woman into their vehicle and starts driving her toward the Twin Cities, toward a federal detention facility… even though she is a U.S. citizen. About twenty minutes into the drive, they suddenly turn around after getting a call from a supervisor. The St. Peter police chief stepped in. After her husband contacted an attorney and spoke with the police chief, the chief identified the vehicle ICE was using, took custody of the woman, and personally drove her home. ICE turned her over to local police because what they were doing was so clearly wrong. This is what is happening in America. A small-town police chief had to intervene to stop federal agents from disappearing an unarmed woman for observing them. If ICE feels comfortable pulling guns on unarmed citizens in small towns, chasing them, throwing them to the ground, and ignoring the law entirely, then no town is too small and no one is safe from ICE brutality. The hard twist to eliminate ICE deflects from Minnesota welfare, daycare fraud, but it emboldens extremists who think armed threats against officers are justified. 🚨BREAKING: (CHICAGO SUBURBS) ICE agents pulled a GUN, and a TASER, on unarmed U.S. citizens for recording them from a public sidewalk… while threatening, “you aren’t going to like the outcome.” In the video, legal observers are standing on a public sidewalk recording ICE agents. The agents stop, get out of their cars, and approach THEM. One agent has his GUN drawn, another has his TASER drawn. The agents tell the legal observers to stop following them. A U.S. citizen responds: “We aren’t doing anything illegal. It’s totally legal to follow you.” He is correct. The First Amendment protects the right to record law enforcement, and federal agents, carrying out their duties in public. And federal regulations specifically recognize that people can record publicly accessible federal activity from public sidewalks, and streets, when they aren’t impeding or disrupting operations. Then, the agent says: “Stop following us, you aren’t going to like the outcome.” That is a serious First Amendment retaliation issue. And then it gets even more dangerous. The same armed federal agents, who just threatened these people with weapons and retaliation… surround the citizens’ car and claim THEY are blocking traffic. But look at the video. The only people blocking traffic are the ICE agents… who have now boxed in the citizens’ car. Agents cannot detain someone because they don’t like being watched. The only people blocking traffic are the ICE agents… who have now boxed in the citizens’ car. Agents cannot detain someone because they don’t like being watched. Retaliating against someone for exercising that right violates the First Amendment. And Illinois law is even more direct when it comes to vehicles. Illinois law specifically makes it aggravated assault to, without justification, operate a motor vehicle in a way that places another person in reasonable apprehension of being struck by the vehicle. It can also constitute reckless conduct if someone recklessly endangers another person’s safety. Federal agents are not exempt from the law. And this is what happens when federal agents start believing there are no consequences for what they do. First it’s intimidation. Then it’s threats. Then it’s driving vehicles at people.
