This is the haptic interface I invented while I was a student at MIT. I then founded a company called SensAble to commercialize the product. The technology has changed hands a few times since then but the idea is basically the same… it lets you touch and sculpt virtual objects!

I got to play with one of these virtual sculpting tools when visiting the designers at Mattel. They used this tech to sculpt new Hot Wheels designs.

Yep! We sold these to Hasbro and Mattel, and to the companies that made Happy Meal toys. The artists were able to sculpt in 3D within minutes of sitting down in front of our systems!

I still wonder about that. But we need someone here in Congress to keep the lawmakers and the corporations who are threatened by innovation from screwing up the invention ecosystem in this country.
