#WATCH | Mumbai: Regarding his meeting with MNS leaders, Dr Swapnil Dhanraj Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway, says, Today at Central Railway, a meeting was held with MNS representatives. During the meeting, the railway presented three main factual points. First, regarding the shifting of the Dadar-Ratnagiri train: the train was moved from Dadar to Ratnagiri in 2021. When train operations resumed post-COVID-19, the train was shifted to Diva from Dadar, and they were also told about the operational reasons, which include that, when this train crosses Diva station, it accesses the 5th and 6th lines, which coincides with the evening peak of suburban services. The train requires approximately 11–12 minutes to pass through the crossover, which significantly impacts the punctuality of suburban trains on both sides. This bottleneck at the Divagate was a major factor affecting punctuality in the Mumbai Division. Consequently, a cautious decision was made in 2021 to run the service from Diva to Ratnagiri instead of Daradar." He adds, "Information was also provided regarding the Dadar-Gorakhpur train. Previously, this train operated from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT). When LTT was converted into an LHB-based coaching depot, the service was shifted to Dadar. To accommodate this at Dadar, the number of coaches had to be reduced from 22 to 17... There have been no other changes to its operation, frequency, or stoppages; the only difference is that the train, which previously ran 'on demand,' has now been made a regular service. Additionally, it was shared that last week, 14 trains were regularised, 7 of which serve various cities in Maharashtra. Over the last 3–4 years, no trains have been cancelled in this region. Furthermore, several services to Madgaon have been introduced or improved: a regular service from CSMT to Madgaon started on June 28, 2023; a bi-weekly special from Bandra Terminus was introduced in 2024; and the frequency of the LTT-Madgaon train was increased from weekly to 4 times a week in November 2022. Currently, 21 trains run daily to the Konkan region from Mumbai, and another 25 trains pass from other stations... Over the past year, the central railway also operated 302 Ganpati special trains for the Konkan region, 52 summer specials and 26 Holi specials..." (24.03)

Let’s take a moment to understand the broader perspective: • Mumbai–Ahmedabad is the first High-Speed Rail (HSR) corridor, but definitely not the only one planned. • It’s one of the busiest rail and air routes in the country, with an average of 80 flights daily in both directions. • The region has a higher per capita income, making it more viable for such large-scale infrastructure. • Despite already having 2 Vande Bharat trains, 1 Shatabdi, 1 Tejas, 1 Double Decker, and several other dedicated trains, demand still exceeds capacity. Importantly, this corridor is just the beginning,the line will be extended to New Delhi, another major air corridor. Future plans also include extending the HSR to Howrah via Varanasi and Patna, connecting several key cities in Bihar. Let’s remember: when the first train ran between Mumbai CSMT and Thane on April 16, 1853, it didn’t mean that was the only railway line India would ever have. In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old engineering student was pushed out of a moving #Mumbai local train between #Panvel and #Khandeshwar stations on Thursday morning, leaving her seriously injured. The victim, a student of a well-known engineering college in #Kharghar, was travelling in the ladies’ coach of a CSMT-bound local train after boarding from Platform No. 3 at Panvel around 8 a.m. with a friend. According to the Railway Police, a man identified as Sheikh Akhtar Nawaz (50) entered the women’s coach during the journey and began arguing after passengers objected to his presence.

Yet another example of lack of communication from the govt about missing link and Mumbai Pune express way closure. Gave no information at Atal setu entrance from Mumbai side, allowed people to cross Atal Setu, slammed them with 250rs toll and then asked them to go back to Mumbai, so that is another 250rs toll in reverse direction. 500 rs for not being able to go to Pune. One wonders, is the govt itself here to scam its people?

Another, faster Vande Bharat overnight sleeper will begin soon, in a couple of months. Thanking Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji for launching the SMVT Bengaluru-Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus bi-weekly Express service today. This new train will improve regional connectivity and contribute to the economic growth of Karnataka and Maharashtra. Today, I also requested for a high-speed rail corridor on this route, via Davanagere & Hubballi, which would greatly reduce travel time and generate immense opportunities for people in the region.

A man has been arrested by Railway Police after a video showing him allegedly assaulting a woman passenger during a seat dispute on a Mumbai local train went viral on social media. The incident took place on a Harbour Line train travelling from Goregaon to CSMT on Wednesday evening. Police said the accused, identified as 36-year-old Mohammad Rizwan Ansari, allegedly hit the woman with his hands and a belt and abused her during the argument.

A 31-year-old Mathematics professor was stabbed to death following a minor altercation that escalated inside a Mumbai local train as it approached Malad railway station. The dispute reportedly began over alighting from the crowded coach, after which the attacker pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed the victim in the abdomen. The victim collapsed at the station and later succumbed to his injuries despite medical assistance. The footage shows the accused running away.
