Discrete tornado-producing supercells, derecho with a textbook bookend vortex & rear inflow jet development, MCS-supercell mergers... this is one of the most meteorologically impressive radar loops I've put together.

7:15pm - A new Tornado Warning has been issued for this lone supercell moving into jack and Montague counties until 8pm. This storm has had a history of producing large hail and low-level rotation. It is moving somewhat slowly, at 20mph southeast.

4 years ago today, a monstrous supercell exploded like a nuke over Chicagoland. This storm exceeded 65K feet in height and caused damage to much of the CHI metro, dropping a few weak tornadoes. If shear was better, a tornado disaster may have transpired #ilwx

This is a radar loop of the tornado which moved through Appleton, Menasha, and Neenah, Wisconsin earlier this afternoon. This was certainly a VERY strong and damaging tornado!

6/3/26 5:44 PM Tonight is the 46 year anniversary of the "Night of the Twisters". One supercell storm produced 7 tornadoes over the city of Grand Island in a 2 hour span. One of the most unique meteorological events on record.

Keeping a close eye on storms Thursday. The Midwest gets hit yet again. Watch for storms to fire up by late afternoon and last through the night. This is a model animation of what storms will look like. #ohwx #inwx #ilwx

Take a look 👀 at the volumetric view of this severe thunderstorm in southwest Texas. This supercell is warned for producing destructive baseball-sized (2.75") hail! #TXwx

🌪️ May 28, 2019. I think about this day often each spring. A mile-wide EF-4 tornado, with estimated peak winds of 170 mph, cut a 32-mile path across Douglas and Leavenworth counties in Kansas. We tracked this mostly rain-wrapped violent tornado from a safe distance along K-10 in StormTracker9 as it approached the western side of the Kansas City metro. The tornado dissipated near Bonner Springs, KS, but the parent supercell thunderstorm cycled and produced a separate EF-2 tornado near Kearney, MO. Miraculously, there were no fatalities, but 18 people were injured, and numerous homes and businesses were heavily damaged or destroyed. What do you remember from this day?

Work has begun on my breakdown of the April 27, 2026, Moderate Risk severe weather event across the Midwest and Mid-South. Forecasts called for numerous supercells with intense, long-track tornadoes, particularly in the open warm sector, but this did not materialize, as warm sector supercells failed to sustain. Of the ~22 tornadoes that occurred from the afternoon of the 27th into the morning of the 28th, all were weak and most were short-lived. In this video, we'll discuss the meteorology behind the event, including several reasons why the event significantly underperformed in the tornado department. Stay tuned!

BREAKING: Tornado just occurred in Hammond, Louisiana, a few minutes ago. This was not tornado-warned, but was severe-warned for damaging winds. A couplet quickly appeared on radar as storms converged, then led to a weak and brief tornado near the Walmart Supercenter on the west side of town. Damage is unknown, but many residents are reporting power outages throughout town. Thank you to Randall for sending this in!

WOW! Insane gustnado earlier in Wabash County, Indiana! This is NOT a tornado. A gustnado forms along the leading edge of thunderstorm outflow, where powerful winds spin up. They’re typically short-lived and not connected to the storm’s main rotation, but they can still produce strong, damaging winds.

After a prolonged dry spell, flash flooding and damaging hail is possible in parts of southeast France, northern Italy and the Alps during the rest of the week⚠️ 75-100 mm of rain is possible in a few hours with perhaps 200 mm locally by the end of Friday. Disruption is likely
