Today, my meeting with the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, focused primarily on strengthening the energy and economic capacities of both our nations so that together we can do more for the national security of our states. We are working to expand cross-border energy cooperation – building two new power transmission lines with Romania. Equally important is our ability to pursue projects together in resource extraction on the Black Sea shelf. Today, we also discussed projects in the oil and gas sector that can support us now, including in light of the challenges related to the Middle East. We reviewed opportunities for transporting American LNG to Ukraine via Romania. We are also working to open new border crossing points – and this will be achieved already this summer. I thank Romania for its principled position throughout all these years of Russia’s full-scale war. Ukraine and Romania are natural strategic partners. The geography of our region, the security challenges we face, and the economic needs of our peoples all point to one conclusion: cooperation between us must only grow stronger.

Both the President’s Office and our diplomats are actively working to ensure a positive political outcome of the swift approval, as well as a positive outcome of the package itself, which should include the items that our warriors on the front lines expect so much. The time between political decisions and actual damage to the enemy on the front lines, between the package's approval and our warriors' strengthening, must be as short as possible. This strength must be the one capable of truly changing the situation on the frontlines. Frontline air defense is just as important as protection for our cities and villages. Our long-range capabilities, artillery, and ability to expand our area of control are all important. Every day is important now, in terms of communication, politics, and logistics. And I am grateful to all of our friends in the United States, as well as our partners around the world, who see common opportunities and tasks in the same way that we do in Ukraine. Together, we must stop Russian terror by all means, limit Russia's terror potential, and force Putin to admit the obvious: this war will yield no results for him.

I am pleased to welcome to Ukraine the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu. We value this visit on such a meaningful day, when we remember the Chornobyl disaster and the colossal solidarity and selflessness of our people, which made it possible to protect our country and our entire region, all of Europe and the world from an even greater radiation catastrophe. Today, Maia and I focused primarily on issues of security, our cross-border cooperation, the protection and development of infrastructure and energy, and we also had a very substantive discussion on our shared path toward the European Union. We are now working to ensure that all six clusters are opened as soon as possible and that EU membership becomes our shared success – for Ukraine, Moldova, and the entire European Union. Ukraine will continue to support Moldova on security issues – in particular with regard to the Transnistrian region. We are also ready to further develop our trilateral formats together with Romania. I personally thank Maia and all of Moldova for supporting Ukraine and for cooperation that strengthens our entire region.

Russia’s attacks on civilian energy infrastructure in Ukraine constitute a war crime, but also an attack on us here in the Republic of Moldova. There have been meetings at various levels, and one of our top priorities is securing long-range capabilities for our Defense Forces. This is crucial to preventing the terror that our Kharkiv and other cities across Ukraine are forced to endure. Clearing Ukrainian skies of Russian guided bombs is a powerful step toward forcing Russia to seek an end to the war and a just peace. Our representatives have provided all the necessary information and details to our partners. I am calling on the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany – we need the means to fully and effectively protect Ukraine and its people. We need permissions for long-range capabilities, as well as your long-range shells and missiles. Making these vital decisions cannot be delayed – these are the actions that can have the most significant impact on the course of events. We are also discussing air defense with our partners – systems that are especially needed now, before the start of the school year, to provide more safety for Ukrainian children in schools, for our cities, and our energy infrastructure. We have agreements with partners on air defense systems and missiles for these systems. It's crucial to implement everything as quickly as possible. We are working even more actively these days to secure such news – additional air defense systems. I thank everyone around the world who is helping. I thank all our people, all repair crews working around the clock to restore the energy sector after Russian strikes. In every city, in every community, you are restoring light, heating, and water supplies in harsh weather conditions. This is extremely hard work, but it is precisely this kind of effort that strengthens our country’s internal resilience and supports our positions in diplomacy. The situation in the energy system remains difficult, but we are doing everything we can to restore all services as quickly as possible. And last night, over 200 strike drones were launched against us. The Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions came under attack. Dozens of people have been injured, including a child. As of now, two people have been reported killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. This week alone has seen more than 1,300 attack drones, around 1,050 guided aerial bombs and 29 missiles of various types in total. That is why Ukraine still needs more protection – above all, more missiles for air defense systems. If Russia is deliberately dragging out the diplomatic process, the world’s response must be decisive: more assistance for Ukraine and more pressure on the aggressor. I thank all our partners who stand with us now, who are ready to help protect lives and strengthen Ukraine, and to work together to restore security.

The damage through the town is widespread, with several homes and businesses sustaining substantial structural damage. Many areas are currently difficult to access due to a significant number of downed trees and power lines across the roadways. The most important update: despite the severity of the property damage, there are no known deaths or injuries reported at this time. Our defensive operations continue in the Kharkiv region, in the border villages of Strilecha, Krasne, Morokhovets, Oliinykove, Lukyantsi, Hatyshche, and Pletenivka, where our forces are countering Russian attacks for the second day and defending Ukrainian territory. The situation remains particularly tense in the Donetsk region, including the Pokrovsk direction, Semenivka, and Netailove villages, where there are over thirty combats per day. The situation remains very difficult. Of course, we pay attention to all other areas, such as the Kupyansk, Lyman, Siversk, Kramatorsk, and Vremivka directions. I am grateful to each brigade that is bravely defending positions, repelling attacks, and destroying occupiers. Thwarting Russia’s offensive plans is the number one task right now.
