Neither one, and the object is 100% real. There are RGB microprojectors on each side and a vibrating chladni-like situation as a baseplate. You're encouraged to touch it. Highly unnerving, probably violating some law of optics

@pvncher OOooh ok, it's dumber than i throught, it's just a real physical objet on a subwoofer sync with led. The object (its shape and all) exist as atom (i throught it was pure photons)

Well, a TV screen is real life as well. "Unaided visual observation" or "naked-eye observation" is probably closer to the technical term.

? Because a TV would show a simulated effect, whereas a lens actually separates the wavelengths of light. You can recognize that something is cool without overstating it lol

A lens, and the siggraph demo are separating wavelengths “in real life”. A TV or screen aren’t. Clarifying that distinction shouldn’t be controversial. Hope that helps. Enjoy.

without knowing anything, i assume there is fast vibration and some flickering light thats shifting fast between colors and thus appearing as if colors are separated specially. like in single-chip DLP projectors

There are patterns you can stare at that after maybe a minute will do this semi-permanently by conditioning your visual cortex to assume your eye lenses have CA that it needs to correct

Just judging by the way the aberration appears outside of the actual object it looks like there is a transducer inside of it vibrating the object and projectors. A transducer is basically a very low frequency subwoofer and the object is sitting on the center of the cone causing it to move up and down faster than you can notice. The projectors are probably synced to a certain frame rate, similar effect to what you'd see in a zoetrope.

my guess: LED are flashing very fast (as often done, not sure why), in phase with the mechanical vibrations, thus yielding some sort of stroboscopic effect. You can see cousin effects this by moving a RGB flashlight fast, or moving hands fast in front of a modern (DLP?) projector
