Virginians have traveled across the state to voice their objection to the new gun laws that will ban the purchase of high capacity magazines. The proposal would also ban a wide range of firearms and features, including semi-automatic center-fire pistols with magazines exceeding 15 rounds, rifles with detachable magazines and weapons with certain characteristics such as collapsible or thumbhole stocks and threaded barrels. Micheál Martin can't handle the truth. His rent hike bill will increase rents by up to €5000 a year for 60,000 people. This is a recipe for disaster and will drive more and more young people to Australia and beyond. If Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael gave a damn about renters they would abandon this bill - they need to end the rip off, ban rent increases and make rent affordable.

Good news: The Senate voted to reject an attempt to strip the hemp ban delay out of the funding bill. A federal hemp ban would wipe out thousands of Minnesota jobs. Our farmers and small businesses are already following strong safety rules — a one-size-fits-all federal ban ignores that. This buys us time, and I’m not done fighting.

New Rasmussen numbers show support for stricter gun control fell to 48 percent among likely voters. 43 percent now oppose it outright. Think about that. Years of media pressure. Years of red flag laws. Years of magazine restrictions. Years of politicians demanding assault weapons bans. And support went down. Not up. But here’s where the trick comes in. The poll also asked if people would support a candidate who promised to ban semi-automatic “assault-type” weapons. 46 percent said yes. Sounds scary. Until you look at the wording. “Assault weapon” is not a real firearms category. It’s a political marketing term. People hear it and picture machine guns. But the question is really about semi-automatic firearms. One trigger pull. One round. The same way most rifles, shotguns, and handguns already work. That’s the game. Scary term. Ordinary gun.
