That is why a tail stand is normally installed after landing to help prevent it from tipping backward. The Boeing 737 has been progressively stretched with each new variant, eventually reaching 138 feet 2 inches (42.1 metres) with the 737-900 — approximately nine feet longer than the 737-800. A K2 Airways Cargo Boeing 737-400 (AP-BOI), operating flight KTA1732 from Sharjah to Karachi, disappeared from radar over the Arabian Sea, approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi, near Ormara. The aircraft was carrying five crew members. According to initial reports, the crew advised dispatch they were experiencing navigation issues and requested assistance before radar contact was lost. You won’t understand the size of the catastrophe that was avoided in this incident until you see the size of the flock of birds they actually hit , I’m super super glad even with birds getting sucked in in both engines they still kept running and managed to bring them back around and safely landed , a testament to the flight deck crew training and how sturdy the B777 is الحمدالله على سلامتهم

The 1946 Lockheed R6V Constitution (XR6O-1) was the largest fixed-wing aircraft ever operated by the US Navy it had a 189-ft wingspan and a double-decker pressurized fuselage. Only two prototypes flew. It was also tested with six JATO rockets mounted in the wing roots—shortened takeoff run by 24-25% at full gross weight, making it the largest aircraft ever to use JATO. Underpowered R-4360 engines + cooling problems cut range/payload; retired 1953 with no airline buyers. One became a Vegas billboard; both scrapped. Innovative design flop despite influencing Boeing C-97.😎

Philippine Airlines Airbus A320-214 damaged after being hit by a Saudia Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Philippines. Flight SV871 was scheduled to fly to Jeddah when it struck the tail of the parked A320 during taxi, damaging PAL plane's vertical stabilizer. PAL said that no passengers or crew members were on board the parked plane at the time of the incident, and no injuries have been reported. Reports indicate that both aircraft were subsequently grounded due to the incident.

Footage from 1945 of the big boy French Latécoère 631. That's right, I sometimes "scan" through French videos in the archives. Paraphrase from wiki: Construction started on the Latécoère in 1938 but was halted due to WWII. Soon after the Franco-German Aristice in 1940 building resumed and the first prototype flew in 1942. But the Germans confiscated it and passed it on the to the Luftwaffe. It was eventually destroyed by RAF Mosquito's in 1944 while at Lake Constance. The second aircraft F-BANT (this one, I believe) first flew in 1945. It was powered by six Wright R-2600 engines of 1,600 horsepower (1,200 kW) each. Four aircraft were purchased by Air France, and entered service on the Biscarrosse-Port-Étienne-Fort de France route in July 1947. However, the aircraft were withdrawn from service in 1948 following the loss of F-BDRC. The last surviving aircraft operated until 1955.☕️

Spotted two A340-300s parked side by side today in Nairobi. Not exactly a rocket on takeoff—the A340-300 has one of the lowest thrust-to-weight ratios among active airliners, powered by a unique variant (CFM56-5C4) of the same CFM56 engines found on A320s. A significant advantage of the A340 was that Airbus's common flight deck design allowed airlines primarily operating short-haul routes to integrate this aircraft type into their long-haul capacity with minimal additional pilot training. Was the program successful? Probably not. Airbus produced a total of 380 from 1991 to 2012.

BREAKING: Extremely sad scene show the world’s last KC-747 tanker (Boeing 747-131F), 5-8107, on fire following an Israeli airstrike at Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran on March 7, 2026. The IDF falsely claimed that the aircraft was associated with the Quds Force, which is absolutely untrue. It was a tanker aircraft used to refuel F-4E Phantom IIs and was a veteran of Operation H-3, having refueled IRIAF F-4Es that struck the H-3 air bases in Iraq on April 4, 1981. 1981 was also the last year this aircraft flew to Syria, when it refueled IRIAF F-4Es at an altitude of just 100 feet over the Iraqi-Syrian border. It was never used by the Quds Force and never carried any weapons or ammunition for them. The aircraft was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when the Israeli Air Force targeted Mehrabad Airport in Tehran. It was not alone. The strikes also destroyed two passenger Boeing 747s (one of them already decommissioned) and two civilian cargo Boeing 747s, in addition to three Iranian Air Force Boeing 747s, one KC-707 tanker and two RC-707 reconnaissance aircraft that were bombed at Mehrabad Airport on March 7, 2026. Cathay Pacific A330 aborts its takeoff in Kaohsiung after a loud bang and what appeared to be flames from one of the aircraft’s engines. A video posted on Facebook of the incident shows the airplane suddenly decelerate after a bang is heard and a flash of flame is seen coming out of one of its engines. The aircraft veers off course slightly before correcting and safely taxiing back to the terminal. A Cathay Pacific spokesperson said CX431 was aborted “due to an engine technical problem”. The spokesperson apologized for the inconvenience that may have been caused by the incident, and said safety is a priority for the airline.

It happened just before 10 a.m., when United said one of their Boeing 737-900 planes "made contact with a catering vendor vehicle while being towed to a gate at Miami International Airport." United said there were no passengers aboard the aircraft. The driver of the box truck was able to get out the vehicle, and no injuries were reported, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. 📹 onlyindade

JUST IN: Audio released after Southwest Airlines Flight 3695 was forced to make an emergency landing after its engine cowling detached during takeoff. The pilot can be heard calling for an emergency landing. The Boeing 737-800s engine cowling detached and “struck the wing flap” during takeoff. The flight was able to turn around and land safely at Denver International Airport. “Southwest Airlines Flight 3695 returned safely to Denver International Airport around 8:15 a.m. local time on Sunday, April 7, after the pilot reported the engine cowling fell off during takeoff and struck the wing flap. The Boeing 737-800 was towed to the gate. The aircraft was headed to William P. Hobby Airport in Houston. The FAA will investigate,” the FAA said in a statement.

The impact caused a compressor stall in one of its CFM56 engines. Compressor stalls are among the most alarming engine events. The loud bangs, visible flames from the exhaust, and intense vibration can make it feel as though the engine is tearing itself off the wing. At high power settings like takeoff, airflow through the compressor must remain perfectly stable. When a bird or debris disrupts that airflow, one or more compressor stages can momentarily stall. The sudden loss and recovery of pressure causes the explosive noise, shaking, and bursts of flame as the engine struggles to re-stabilize. But from an airline economics perspective, the story is more complicated. The 757 is essentially a narrow-body revenue generator with wide-body operating expenses: wide-body wings, engines, landing gear, tail, gate requirements, and ground equipment. Boeing tried for years to market a next-generation 757, but airlines showed little interest—because no amount of incremental improvement could fundamentally fix the economics. As a result, airlines found themselves operating an aircraft that was operationally brilliant but economically challenging on many routes. Without a clean-sheet redesign, it was difficult to significantly improve its cost efficiency compared to newer, more optimized narrow-body aircraft. Last time, when I visited GE, the assurance was that they would give us 20 engines in the second half of this calendar year, between June and December. This is the indication from GE and this is a pessimistic number; they have told me they should do better...By the end of this month, we will have 6 aircraft with CAT-A engines..."

Boeing NT-43A RAT55 / NASA522 departing Palmdale Rare sighting of an incredibly secretive aircraft! The heavily modified Boeing 737-200 NT-43A (serial 73-1155), better known by its callsign RAT55 or now NASA522, lifts off from the Palmdale area. This unique radar testbed is equipped with large nose and tail radomes and is used to measure the radar cross-section of stealth aircraft in flight — a critical tool for validating low-observable designs and coatings. In the past, sightings of RAT55 outside the restricted ranges of Nevada are uncommon, so catching it operating at Plant 42 was incredible! It also flew as NASA522 in support of the last Artemis mission. Yesterday it flew as LORA21. Thanks for watching!
