People whining about the seagulls?? Jesus, for me this looks like a great new way to get rid of seagulls! Seriously though, they landed hard, seems the pilots reacted more than the engines did.

Someone needs to be held to account for allowing these gulls to be injured/ killed . They have no control over aircraft landing. The pilots could have aborting the approach. Will there be an enquiry ? I could accept 1 death but 20 !! An immediate board of enquiry is required

A powerful reminder of how resilient modern aviation engineering is. Bird strikes can be serious, but commercial jet engines are designed and extensively tested to withstand many such events. In this case, the crew stayed composed, the aircraft remained fully controllable, and a safe landing was the result exactly how multiple layers of aviation safety are meant to work.

For those who may not know, the Boeing 737-900 is particularly susceptible to becoming tail-heavy when the aircraft is empty or lightly loaded. That is why a tail stand is normally installed after landing to help prevent it from tipping backward. The Boeing 737 has been progressively stretched with each new variant, eventually reaching 138 feet 2 inches (42.1 metres) with the 737-900 — approximately nine feet longer than the 737-800. In this 2014 incident, that precaution was apparently not taken, resulting in the 737-900 tipping onto its tail. 📹: rrenderman

Water runway testing is part of aircraft certification, and the Airbus A350 goes through it here. The aircraft is driven through a test section containing at least 22 mm of standing water, with speeds increasing from about 111 km/h to 259 km/h. At these speeds, the landing gear produces a large amount of water spray. Engineers study how the spray moves around the aircraft and check that it does not adversely affect the engines or APU. The tests cover both takeoff and landing conditions, including reverse thrust during landing. The purpose is to verify that the A350 can safely operate when significant water is standing on the runway.

Only two prototypes flew. It was also tested with six JATO rockets mounted in the wing roots—shortened takeoff run by 24-25% at full gross weight, making it the largest aircraft ever to use JATO. Underpowered R-4360 engines + cooling problems cut range/payload; retired 1953 with no airline buyers. One became a Vegas billboard; both scrapped. Innovative design flop despite influencing Boeing C-97.😎

Philippine Airlines Airbus A320-214 damaged after being hit by a Saudia Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Philippines. Flight SV871 was scheduled to fly to Jeddah when it struck the tail of the parked A320 during taxi, damaging PAL plane's vertical stabilizer. PAL said that no passengers or crew members were on board the parked plane at the time of the incident, and no injuries have been reported. Reports indicate that both aircraft were subsequently grounded due to the incident.

While approaching the USS Green Bay with 26 personnel on board, the aircraft experienced a sudden loss of thrust due to heavy downwash and excess weight. The pilots applied power using the Thrust Control Lever, but they could not stop the rapid descent. The left engine nacelle struck the flight deck of the ship, and the aircraft slid across the deck before plunging 30 feet into the sea. Twenty-three personnel were rescued from the water. Three Marines were killed when the aircraft filled with water and sank. U.S. military investigators concluded that there had been no mechanical failure or pilot misconduct. The crash was caused by downwash that forced the aircraft down while it was operating near its maximum gross weight limit. Following the investigation, operating procedures and maximum landing weight limits for sea approaches were updated.

Not exactly a rocket on takeoff—the A340-300 has one of the lowest thrust-to-weight ratios among active airliners, powered by a unique variant (CFM56-5C4) of the same CFM56 engines found on A320s. A significant advantage of the A340 was that Airbus's common flight deck design allowed airlines primarily operating short-haul routes to integrate this aircraft type into their long-haul capacity with minimal additional pilot training. Was the program successful? Probably not. Airbus produced a total of 380 from 1991 to 2012.

The IDF falsely claimed that the aircraft was associated with the Quds Force, which is absolutely untrue. It was a tanker aircraft used to refuel F-4E Phantom IIs and was a veteran of Operation H-3, having refueled IRIAF F-4Es that struck the H-3 air bases in Iraq on April 4, 1981. 1981 was also the last year this aircraft flew to Syria, when it refueled IRIAF F-4Es at an altitude of just 100 feet over the Iraqi-Syrian border. It was never used by the Quds Force and never carried any weapons or ammunition for them. The aircraft was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when the Israeli Air Force targeted Mehrabad Airport in Tehran. It was not alone. The strikes also destroyed two passenger Boeing 747s (one of them already decommissioned) and two civilian cargo Boeing 747s, in addition to three Iranian Air Force Boeing 747s, one KC-707 tanker and two RC-707 reconnaissance aircraft that were bombed at Mehrabad Airport on March 7, 2026. The impact caused a compressor stall in one of its CFM56 engines. Compressor stalls are among the most alarming engine events. The loud bangs, visible flames from the exhaust, and intense vibration can make it feel as though the engine is tearing itself off the wing. At high power settings like takeoff, airflow through the compressor must remain perfectly stable. When a bird or debris disrupts that airflow, one or more compressor stages can momentarily stall. The sudden loss and recovery of pressure causes the explosive noise, shaking, and bursts of flame as the engine struggles to re-stabilize. Cathay Pacific A330 aborts its takeoff in Kaohsiung after a loud bang and what appeared to be flames from one of the aircraft’s engines. A video posted on Facebook of the incident shows the airplane suddenly decelerate after a bang is heard and a flash of flame is seen coming out of one of its engines. The aircraft veers off course slightly before correcting and safely taxiing back to the terminal. A Cathay Pacific spokesperson said CX431 was aborted “due to an engine technical problem”. The spokesperson apologized for the inconvenience that may have been caused by the incident, and said safety is a priority for the airline.

BREAKING: K2 AIRWAYS BOEING 737-400 CARGO AIRCRAFT MISSING OFF PAKISTAN'S COAST A K2 Airways Cargo Boeing 737-400(AP-BOI), flight KTA1732 from Sharjah to Karachi, has disappeared from radar over the Arabian Sea approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi near Ormara. According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, the crew reported a navigation system issue at 2118 PST and was being assisted by Karachi Area Control Centre (ACC). Three minutes later, at 2121 PST, the aircraft was observed making a rapid descent and sudden heading change before radar contact and communications were lost. A truck overturns on the tarmac of Miami International Airport when it was hit by a United 737-900. It happened just before 10 a.m., when United said one of their Boeing 737-900 planes "made contact with a catering vendor vehicle while being towed to a gate at Miami International Airport." United said there were no passengers aboard the aircraft. The driver of the box truck was able to get out the vehicle, and no injuries were reported, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. 📹 onlyindade

JUST IN: Audio released after Southwest Airlines Flight 3695 was forced to make an emergency landing after its engine cowling detached during takeoff. The pilot can be heard calling for an emergency landing. The Boeing 737-800s engine cowling detached and “struck the wing flap” during takeoff. The flight was able to turn around and land safely at Denver International Airport. “Southwest Airlines Flight 3695 returned safely to Denver International Airport around 8:15 a.m. local time on Sunday, April 7, after the pilot reported the engine cowling fell off during takeoff and struck the wing flap.
