GAHHHH!! The fact that this ENTIRE SCENE is animated movie exclusive just goes to prove how vastly superior this film is to the comic! This scene works on so many levels, which is a large part of why it’s so iconic to this day. For one, we are seeing the power of a full fledged Kryptonian- even if not fully honing her skills yet. The animators go all out in showing how not only overwhelmingly powerful Kara is, but also how her fight style greatly differentiates from Superman’s as she engages in combat with more elegance and tactical precision. She has her own flow that not even Darkseid can predict. But more importantly this is Kara coming into her own. Because this movie actually gives her agency and an arc, we’re seeing her tap into her full potential as Supergirl here. The spark that Lyla saw in her earlier (who ALSO has greater characterization here). She’s fully embracing who she is and taking that leap of faith, and kicking ass while doing so.

It’s the same face but with motion. Her face is designed to look flawless when still, when there’s expression it doesn’t move properly because the surgery has purposely created scar tissue to hold certain areas in place. You can see in interviews (like below) when she’s controlling her facial movement she still looks like the ‘flawless’ picture, she just looks ‘frozen’ like she’s had botox. In an environment like the photos you posted she’s not controlling her facial movement, she’s having a natural reaction to seeing fans but her face isn’t behaving naturally.

Idk if it was intentional but I always loved how in this scene, when focused on Benedict (Sophie's POV), the camera is steady. But when focused on her (Benedict's POV), it's shaky. Sophie always knew the reality of their relationship. But to Ben, it's only starting to unravel.
