'Those people who say new exploration licenses will somehow create huge amounts of energy for us... I mean, they're just wrong' Ed Miliband told ITV News that drilling for oil in the North Sea wouldn't bring down Britain's energy bills

He's simply wrong. Or lying. It's hard to tell he's so out of step with everyone else. Even @RachelReevesMP doesn't agree with him More North Sea production WOULD lower bills. Every LNG cargo we displace lowers NBP More tax revenues can be used to pay for some of his crazy expensive renewables subsidies rather than putting them on bills

This man just says "you're wrong" without explaining why we are all wrong.

@Ed_Miliband being the sly drone he is distracts the public by talking about the narrow idea of bills. Of course North Sea drilling would bring in hundreds of millions in revenue & create thousands of jobs. Foolish ideology is his priority

Who believes Mad Miliband! Plenty of oil & gas around the UK! So why is Norway going gangbusters in the North Sea? #bbcnews #bbcpm What do they know that Labour does not?

He is correct about the bills as he has baked in rising electricity prices for 20 years. The drilling argument is nonsense as it is zero cost, zero risk to the UK. All he has to do is issue the licences. All if the costs and risks are taken on by the exploration companies. If the believe that that particular fields are uneconomic, they won't drill. If they find oil and gas, the UK taxes those profits at 78%. A big win for the Treasury. Any gas found is pumped directly to the UK. We would use what we need stop spending £billions importing LNG and gas from overseas. More £billions for the UK. Molliband is a fool.

The man is delusional. Bad for anyone to be this out of control with reality, but this man is de facto running our government. And he’s running the country into the ground.

Ed Minibrain lies, all the time. Utilising our oil fields brings in cash, loads of it for the treasury coffers, just like Norway has a 2 trillion sovereign wealth fund from it, but Ed is happy for us to pay £40 billion to import from them. He needs to go, and go now.

Of course it wouldn't bring down energy bills. Miliband, his green cronies and Starmer and his financially incontinent government would piss away money generated or savings made. There's always a country we've never heard of in Africa that needs a green, trans 'investment' of a few hundred million of so.

Are the Chinese government the “independent experts” he’s referring to? You know—the same ones he’s buying windmills and solar panels from, reportedly made using slave labour. #SlaveLabour

The UK should be energy independent, it's people should pay pennies for fuel but unfortunately due to deliberate destruction of our own oil and gas and idiotic climate policies that other countries ignore, our country is reliant on fuel purchased from Norway and USA. The UK buys Norwegian fuel drilled from the north sea, as our own fields are shutdown due to governments refusing new licences and taxing existing operations at 75-100% Personally I would apply zero tax to our own fuel as this would boost the economy, but then again the genius Milliband knows better. Norway is a vital energy partner, supplying nearly half of the UK's natural gas, largely via pipelines. While both nations operate in the North Sea, they hold separate, distinct, and highly regulated, sovereign continental shelf areas. Norway is the UK’s largest pipeline gas supplier, providing around 31 billion cubic meters (Bcm) in 2024, representing roughly 50% of UK consumption. Norway operates a state-supported energy system, but sells gas to the UK at global market rates rather than at production cost, which has contributed to higher energy prices. Looking at our debt since the Fabians assumed office in 1997 their nearly 30 year reign of terror has destroyed the economy of the UK. From pointless wars to mass unfetted immigration the UK is shackled with debt and over population that has stretched the countries resources to breaking point.

@DeborahMeaden This is fatuous. Are there other issues such as energy and food security, re-industrialisation for homegrown steel etc, a need to not be dependent on China for our energy infrastructure, increased gdp, jobs, tax receipts, etc that are highly relevant in a war-teetering world?

Ed Milliband is a puerile MP who talks such complete rubbish! New licences would of course 100% create more gas and oil, in turn revenue and jobs, preventing black outs, if you produce your own oil you control the price USA unleaded £.90 p U.K. unleaded £1.49 why ?

Norway are taking millions of Barrels of oil out of the same North Sea! Milliband argues blank is white literally ! He is puerile & pathetic laughing at the question it’s his go to modus operandi! Fact is you drill for oil you own you produce more own it & can impact the price

Why does it have to be sold on the international market? A precondition for any licence could be that the UK gets first dibs on any production. It's ludicrous to suggest the government can't set the terms of extraction.

No More Urban Elite 的头像

Of course it would, we would be consuming our own oil, creating massive tax revenue for the government, giving them the ability to offer considerable rebates. And more importantly not threatened by other providers
