Thousands of workers at Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest chip maker and Korea’s biggest company, have launched an indefinite strike. Originally planned as a three-day action, the strike has extended indefinitely after management refused to engage in talks with the workers. So far, over 6,540 members of the National... Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU), the largest union at Samsung Electronics, have participated in the strike. The union represents about 30,000 workers, or 24% of all Samsung employees. The union’s demands include a 5.6% basic pay raise for all members, a guaranteed day off on the union’s founding day, and compensation for economic losses due to the strike. It has been a long coming. South Korean workers were active in the 60s and managed to gain many benefits with massive strikes. Then all went silent as Korean economy grew. But companies did the same as what was done in US, a decline in standard of living. Samsung workers around the globe must join. Shut it down with solidarity.

This is so sorely needed work culture at Samsung/SK Hynix etc is really awful a strong Korean labor movement would do wonders for making semiconductor a non-hellish industry
