Ceddanne Rafaela hits a fly to center and both runners forget there was one out and just ran without tagging up. After the ball was caught, the Blue Jays threw the ball in and doubled off the runner at first, for an inning ending double play. Since the runner from third scored BEFORE the third out, the run counts because this is not a force, but a timing play. What Toronto SHOULD have done is after the out at first, they legally could have thrown to third and appealed that that runner left early. This would have been the elusive FOURTH OUT and this would have replaced the third out and nullified the run. Ceddanne Rafaela is one of few outfielders who can catch a 5% probability ball without diving. Such an amazing jump and pursuit it barely draws a reaction from the announcers. It's measurably one of the toughest catches we'll see this year. The vast majority of outfielders aren't getting close to this one, and the few who do are fortunate to catch it on the dive:

This is great leadership from Pete Crow-Armstrong! PCA hit a clutch triple and then tied the game on a sac fly. On the sac fly, he didn’t slide because Matt Shaw didn’t tell him to. After the play, PCA made sure to let Shaw know what he did wrong and the Cubs went onto win the game 👀

Ok, I'm not gonna lie, it's plays like this that make me question having my DMs open. It's obvious the folks asking me about this play in the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers game are either daily fantasy players, or gamblers, so I'll use this as an educational post. This is NEVER an error. This play where Brice Matthews is on the dead run, leaping to save a home run, and nearly making a SportsCenter Top-10 (this would have been No. 1) play is NOT an error. This is way, way, way beyond ordinary effort. An error is a dropping of the ball or a misplay in which the average fielder is expected to make the physical catch at that position, using ordinary effort. There is nothing ordinary about this. This is ALWAYS a hit. ALWAYS.

🚨WEIRD PLAY ALERT🚨 This is from tonight's Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins game. This was originally scored a triple and an error, and almost immediately changed to an error on the right fielder and a throwing error on the center fielder. The original error on the rright fielder was for colliding with the center fielder as it looked like he had the ball. However, this was changed back to a triple and an error, as you have both fielders on a dead sprint back into right center. While yes, it might be a catch, the catch itself, and the play, is well above ordinary effort. The collision error isn't for this type of play, but a play where a fielder is situated where he can field the ball with ordinary effort and gets run into, with the ball getting knocked out, so this was changed after a review after the game but before stats were posted.

But you CAN have an error on that play if the throw is good but dropped. Well, that happened today between the Toronto Blue Jays and the SFGiants. With the bases loaded a one out, Myles Straw hits I to a potential 643 DP, but the ball went through the glove of Rafael Devers at first. Since this is a missed catch, an assumed out error is issue to Devers (second baseman Luis Arraez gets an assist), and in reconstructing the inning, this should be the third out. That made this run, and the run that followed on the next batter’s single both unearned. This is different that the Philadelphia Phillies play. Had Turner’s throw been accurate, and dropped by Harper, all six of those runs would have been unearned to Cristopher Sánchez. #BlueJays50 #SFGiants #RingTheBell

What's even better is that its 2nd and 5, the defense thinks Duo is coming, they stack the box, but Brady gets the ball on the perimeter. This is usually a GL/Short yardage call.
