This is the current satellite view of the Gulf region in the Middle East, and as you can see, powerful thunderstorms are already erupting within this unusually moisture-rich environment. Two intense cells with feverish lightning activity and heavy, flooding downpours are now moving onshore into the UAE, impacting the cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi simultaneously. And this is not even the direct beginning of the supercell outbreak that is forecast for Thursday. We are still more than ~36 hours away from seeing the worst of this storm system.

We're closely monitoring some thunderstorms making their way across Texoma, North Texas, the Brazos Valley, and Southeast Texas at 2:50AM this morning. While these storms are mostly behaving, they are bringing frequent lightning, small hail, and heavy rain. The activity is moving quickly northeast. We expect to see an increase in thunderstorm activity in Southeast Texas over the next few hours. In the far eastern Panhandle, we have thundersnow and thundersleet heading into Oklahoma, leaving behind some freezing drizzle across the Texas Panhandle and West Texas—so be mindful of slick bridges and overpasses. An active weather pattern is setting up for Tuesday as a cold front approaches and a warm, humid air mass surges into the area. Some communities, including Park City and Kamas, picked up between 0.25” and 1.00” of rain in a short amount of time as thunderstorms rolled through. While not everyone got in on the rain, these downpours are welcome news for our dry landscapes and ongoing wildfire concerns. 🎥 Take a look at this video from Francis, Utah, where the rain came down in a hurry!
