Tibo confirmed that OpenAI plans to merge Codex and ChatGPT capabilities, with the goal of making the experience less complex for users: “…and for Codex and ChatGPT, we have Chat and the Work toggle, and we’re going to merge them. We’ve heard the feedback loud and clear: people love... show more

I use chat separately to create prompts for codex and assist in analyzing codex output . Sometimes I’ll use chat for health questions. It’s stupid for them to merge .

Merging the two, meaning it's going to completely ruin the experiences for writers and lit creatives when the backend force switches the chat to work. Fucking great. Just fucking great. There goes three years of work. I despised the auto switcher when 5 came out, and forcing me into a mode I will NEVER want to use is no different. Who the fuck asked for this!?

No, please. Keep them separate. Merging them would cause a lot of clutter. Or, if they are merged, make it optional.

Combining Chat and Work modes is a massive step backward for power users. Chat is for open-ended brainstorming. Work is for isolated, multi-step execution on specific data assets. Merging them means losing conversational nuance, context pollution, and hitting agent limits way too fast. Keep the boundaries clear! 🛑 #AI Or make a toggle on setting where you can choses to have it combined or sperate modes! @ajambrosino @victornunez @techwithhannahm @reach_vb @thsottiaux @JustinBleuel @ajambrosino @angelbrodin @kundan2510

Right, so chat is more pleasant to use, but these dimwits at OpenAI decide to merge them? Make it make sense, because from where I am sitting, it doesn't. And I am someone who uses Work daily.

What about the separate usage limits? That was always one of OAI’s most valuable offers

LOL I’m sure it has nothing to do with controlling usage limits.

No one wants this @OpenAI are you guys all fucking stupid?

Only reason they would want them to merge the two is to make chat usage no longer unlimited

The more you merge, the messier it gets 😓. Splitting them apart actually makes things clear instead. Merging was really such a stupid idea.

So much for unmetered chat…

They keep on the process of doing what nobody asked for.

merging is fine, just let me pin the model myself

This is a bad move. Chat has separate usage limits.

Fuck tibo and openai

Uh so no more seperate Chatgpt usage? Lol literally the only thing keeping most people from switching to Claude once and for all

As long as it gets good at differentiating between when people want to "Chat" against no usage versus when to use agentic coding/or agentic work I think it'll work well.

But then how do you handle usage, since chat is basically unlimited

Users are legit retarded. Imagine wanting to give up infinite usage on chat because you're too stupid to navigate a simple app ui.

Il ne font ca que pour gagner ee l'inference Mettre un routeur c'est te mettre le modele le plus pourris on l'as bien vue avec gpt5 Perso ca sera sans moi Je finie mon abonnement et je me désabonner

guys DO NOT TOUCH the chat mode if not to add newer model in it. Like COME ON leave the chat mode alone!

This is so obviously what Dots is beta testing. Your conversation with the Dot is your chat, then when it "works" it's using your agentic usage. This makes sense for someone like my wife who doesn't want to think about the tabs and the models. Dots would be a killer feature for her (but she's on Plus so can't use it). For power users it's bad because we want fine grain control and the current implementation of Dots of underbaked at best and broken at worst.

It is just click one tab button, what is complex about it?

merging them just means no more unlimited chat: a work task that sends your request to the cheapest model needed (not necessarily a bad thing) but dings your usage for every prompt (a bad thing)

It’s complex for a reason… they don’t belong together. There are way more ChatGPT users than Codex

This will completely ruin it.

simpler for users wouldve been not building two separate products in the first place. this is just cleaning up their own mess and calling it a feature

Aw man :/ I mean, maybe they do it right and the experience will be “less complex”. But I personally really like the option to switch from Work and Chat. Makes it easier and I always know what I am doing and how I should prompt Imagine chatting and suddenly the AI starts to work

The normies flooding into this scene begging to make things more simple (they already are) are going to ruin everything for everyone who all already know what they are doing. Watch. It will lead to merged plan usage.

That’s a wrong move! They should leave Codex as it is; it’s a dev tool. It doesn’t need fancy features; it just needs improved code generation and management. It doesn’t need silly features like dots. @thsottiaux is wrong!

First merge them, then count all conversations toward the usage limit. What a brilliant business idea!

OpenAI specializes in delivering things nobody asked for and nobody wants, while being considerably worse at delivering what people actually want and ask for. I don’t know what the reason for this is, but the general principle of “the same for everyone, so everyone gets crap” is apparently being carefully maintained. Something that is supposed to be good for everything will end up being good for nothing. Something that is supposed to be for everyone will end up being for no one.

Ummm...so if they merge all apps into one app, that app will be called ChatGPT (because 1 billion users know the app as ChatGPT)...so Codex will be gone...Just a thought for Codex users asking for the merge

☹️
