They know their policies are unpopular. Texas has a long history of voter suppression and partisan redistricting. It’s one of the main ways Republicans hold power in a state where demographics are changing fast, and not in Republicans’ favor. This is exactly why so many Dems in red states don’t vote. Gerrymandering fuels voter apathy. Folks feel like their vote doesn’t matter because, in too many places, it’s been designed not to.
