Today I release new GPU Particle Volumes system and the GPU Snow Particle shaders for it! This snow shader can render hundreds of thousands of particles at the same time even on a weak GPU. It also supports VRC Light Volumes. Get it on my Booth or Patreon!

This week I've been working on the VRChat Light Volumes scripts to bring you an easy and comfortable editor workflow. I also implemented the Volumes rotation feature and optimized the shader a lot to make it work even more solid on potatoe-PCs. Here's a small video of how it currently works.

A very rough proof of concept of Baked Directional AO for VRC Light Volumes. I'm not sure if I want to integrate it into light volumes for real, but it could be a VERY performant solution to make super cheap realtime contact shadows.

Today I improved GPU Grass with a feature I call "batched instancing". It builds a grass batch at runtime and instances it. No world size increase, less GPU memory usage, runtime grass amount control, and better perf. 144 FPS with 11.2M grass triangles visible to the horizon!

Now Point Light Volumes supports Cubemap projections! Volumetric fog makes it look just stunning! But here's some bad news... If I release it, all world creators will need to update their worlds to the new Light Volumes version. Otherwise it will break the back compatibility. Updating avatars will be really suggested too, to support the point light volumes, but worlds are something that is more important! But it will be just as easy as to reupload the world.

Spot Light Volumes! Everything is parametric here and not baked into a 3D texture, as regular light volumes, which makes it even more optimized. Will work on it a little bit more and see if it's worth to add it to the main project branch.

New prototype of VRC Light Volumes real-time shadows! It uses EVSM сontact-hardening soft shadows. Performance seems good on PC, but I will do more tests. Finally something that looks better than what you can achieve in Unity by default!

Moving all scenegraph and render to the GPU was hard, but it was worth it. Now it is possible to generate geometry/nodes/objects/materials on the GPU, and nothing is going to the system memory to update BVH or other subsystems. Here is a single 2080Ti with 5 2k screens:

A new clustered froxel-based lighting prototype for Light Volumes 3.0.0! It uses froxels to precompute visible light IDs, so shader don't have to iterate through every light. This scene has 128 active lights and performs around 60 FPS on Android. ~13 FPS with no clustering.
