Today’s shed plan: put a work light on a skateboard and try to roll it through the middle for “lighting tests.” Accuracy was poor. Attempts were many. Eventually the light hit the right spot and… the results were very illuminating.

Thomas Young's double-slit experiment, performed in 1801, is one of the most important demonstrations in physics. It provided strong evidence that light behaves as a wave by producing interference patterns. In the experiment, coherent light is directed at an opaque barrier with two closely spaced slits. The light waves passing through these slits interfere with one another, creating a pattern of bright and dark fringes on a screen positioned behind the slits. The spacing and location of these fringes depend on the light's wavelength, the distance between the two slits, and the distance to the screen. This experiment established the wave nature of light. The modern understanding of wave-particle duality, where light can also behave like particles (photons), developed in the early 20th century with quantum mechanics, and is beautifully illustrated by modern versions of the double-slit experiment performed with individual photons.

Needless to say DHS received a reality check today. Hearing the commissioner say her staff is only in the office 50% of the time was… surprising, to say the least. When taxpayer dollars are footing the bill, Minnesotans deserve accountability and results! I appreciated the opportunity to raise a constituent’s concern directly and hope DHS keeps that in mind as they move through this “culture transition.”‼️#mnfraud #dhs

It is what happened on October 8 and October 9, and on all the days since, on Western campuses, in Western schools, and in Western media outlets. The way the West has reacted, in particular young people, all across this country and in Europe, to the horrors of October 7, has been as disappointing to so many of us as it was surprising because it misses the point. The point is that the October 7 attacks were not just attacks on Jews or Israelis alone; they were part of a broader war for the heart and soul of Western civilization.
