SharedNeRF: Leveraging Photorealistic and View-dependent Rendering for Real-time and Remote Collaboration Abstract (excerpt): When collaborators are remote, coordinating the sharing of views of their physical environment becomes challenging. Video-conferencing tools often do not provide the desired viewpoints for a remote viewer. While RGB-D cameras offer 3D views, they lack the necessary fidelity. We introduce SharedNeRF, designed to enhance synchronous remote collaboration by leveraging the photorealistic and view-dependent nature of Neural Radiance Field (NeRF). The system complements the higher visual quality of the NeRF rendering with the instantaneity of a point cloud and combines them through carefully accommodating the dynamic elements within the shared space, such as hand gestures and moving objects. The system employs a head-mounted camera for data collection, creating a volumetric task space on the fly and updating it as the task space changes.

This is the latest Google research on XR Interaction: World Mouse. Instead of using hand rays or gestures to point at things in the physical space, you move a cursor with a mouse and the system figures out where that cursor should sit in the 3D world. It works in two main ways: - On an object, the cursor follows the surface, so you can move precisely across walls, screens, furniture, or virtual objects. - Between objects, the system creates a smooth bridge through space, so the cursor can travel from one surface to another. That means you can go from a 2D panel to a 3D object, place content on a real wall, manipulate virtual objects, or interact with physical devices through digital proxies. Sharing a small personal project I’ve been slowly building over the past couple of years, mostly on weekends and in spare moments: Cosmic XR, a mixed reality experience that brings space and the universe into your own room. This project began from my deep love for space, and the desire to let people not just observe, but reach out and interact with planets, moons, and other celestial wonders — to touch, rotate, and scale them with their hands, as if they were right in front of them. For those familiar with HoloLens, many parts of this app are inspired by the open-source Galaxy Explorer project, which played a key role in building many parts of the experience. I’m grateful to build on that foundation. As a single-person project, there’s still much to improve — technically, visually, and content-wise. But I wanted to share it now, in hopes that it brings a sense of curiosity and wonder to anyone who tries it. If you're into space and immersive experiences, I’d love for you to give it a try — you can explore it without purchasing through the “Try Before You Buy” feature on Meta Quest Store: I hope this experience reminds us of how small we are — and how precious each moment is, a fleeting blink in the vast timeline of the universe. Since July we've been redesigning our scanning pipeline to work with the new 3D Gaussian Splatting for Real-Time Radiance Field Rendering method from Inria. GS has reignited our passion for 3D/4D scanning. Thank you to the team at Inria IR's AeonX capture system has been designed to capture "Spatial" memories for the future. We've built on a custom version of Inria's Sibr viewer to handle the playback of our multiple processed 4D frames. Our next goal is to optimize the player to be multi-threaded to improve performance over 60fps. GS has reignited our passion for 3D/4D scanning.
