Easily one of my most anticipated films of 2026, if not the decade thus far, because this is the first non-IP, non-franchise film from Cruise in years. Tom Cruise’s performance in The Last Samurai is one of the first things I bring up anytime someone ignorantly suggests that Cruise can’t act. Cruise is quietly vulnerable in this role & his physicality and dedication is impeccable. Cruise’s nonverbal acting in this film is some of the best of his career. Don’t ever question this man’s acting chops.

Edge of Tomorrow is the definition of “rewatchable”. I don’t know where this ranks within Tom Cruise’s filmography, but it’s definitely one of the more original films Cruise has ever made. Cruise’s chemistry with Emily Blunt is also incredibly special. I love this movie.

Tom Cruise is my super early pick for the Oscar for Best Actor. I obviously haven’t seen Digger yet but it appears as if the stars are beginning to align behind Cruise: he’s marketing the Hell out of this film far in advance of its release (he was everywhere this summer, including the World Cup), his older films are being rereleased in theaters throughout the year, and the entire industry appears to be behind Cruise. As you all know, there’s a difference between who I think will win & who I think should win the Oscar. The “should win” portion comes after I see every film. But for now? The “will win” pick points to Cruise.

Valkyrie isn’t one of Tom Cruise’s best films but I enjoy revisiting this from time-to-time because the story is interesting, Cruise is good, and the entire ensemble is made of quality actors. Some would call this a “dad film” but I just think it’s decent moviemaking.

John Goodman has never won an Oscar- Hell, he’s somehow never even been *nominated* for an Oscar. I desperately hope that changes with Goodman’s performance in the upcoming film Digger alongside Tom Cruise. Goodman is everywhere in the trailer Cruise released today. I’ve also read early reviews singing Goodman’s praises. I hope this is finally his moment.

American Made is one of Tom Cruise’s more under-appreciated films. I don’t think this is anything groundbreaking that you need to write home about, but this is a super entertaining time with Cruise, who doesn’t take himself that seriously in this film. Definitely worth a watch.
