Tom Cruise Week is underway & in full effect, which is the perfect opportunity for me to remind you all that Cruise is sublime in Edge of Tomorrow. This is an outlier film from 2014 that’s aged so, so well, not just because of Cruise’s performance or his chemistry...

Easily one of my favorite Cruise films. Any film where he has a comedic "touch" on top of seriousness. He does it in Maverick and the first Reacher (Bus stop scene). Those are gold.

Problem with Tom Cruise is he’s been stuck in action actor format. He wasn’t like that in the 80s and 90s but now he looks for franchisees to keep his name alive. I gave him props for trying with digger. Overall he plays it safe.

Perfect timing with Digger coming. Watch this first if you want to remember how good Cruise can be when the script actually gives him something.

Tom Cruise’s next film releases in 251 days. Until then? Edge of Tomorrow should hold you over. This film is unquestionably one of Cruise’s best & definitely one of the better films of the 21st Century. Cruise & Emily Blunt have a unique, memorable chemistry that really lasts.

Edge of Tomorrow is the definition of “rewatchable”. I don’t know where this ranks within Tom Cruise’s filmography, but it’s definitely one of the more original films Cruise has ever made. Cruise’s chemistry with Emily Blunt is also incredibly special. I love this movie.

Tom Cruise gets fucked up in nearly every way imaginable for over 2 hours in Edge of Tomorrow. What I love about this Cruise performance is Cruise plays a character who is not in control of anything, subverting the Cruise we see as Mav or Ethan Hunt. It’s Cruise at his best.

30 Days. One month. That’s all the separates us from Tom Cruise’s next film Digger. Easily one of my most anticipated films of 2026, if not the decade thus far, because this is the first non-IP, non-franchise film from Cruise in years. There’s no way around it: Digger is one of Tom Cruise’s biggest risks. It’s also perhaps Cruise’s biggest push for a dance with Oscar in the last 25 years. Expectations are through the roof but if there’s anyone who can meet them it’s Tom Cruise. The time is now.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014) is one of those rare studio action films that just fires on every cylinder. Cruise and Blunt play it with a chemistry that keeps the whole thing exhilarating.

Tom Cruise just announced the full trailer for his upcoming release Digger drops July 13th. You might be asking: who cares, why is this a big deal? Well, it’s the first time we’ll see Cruise in this world/as this character- which is reportedly one of the biggest creative swings of Cruise’s legendary career. All I know is this- wherever Cruise goes, I’ll follow.

Tom Cruise’s performance in The Last Samurai is one of the first things I bring up anytime someone ignorantly suggests that Cruise can’t act. Cruise is quietly vulnerable in this role & his physicality and dedication is impeccable. Cruise’s nonverbal acting in this film is some of the best of his career. Don’t ever question this man’s acting chops.

Tom Cruise returns to theaters on Friday. I can’t wait. If his performance in Digger is anywhere near the things he pulls off as Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder, I’m sold. I think Cruise is such an underrated actor. For all his fame & fortune, I don’t think people recognize the acting chops on Cruise. The Academy certainly hasn’t recognized Cruise’s chops but I’ll address them/deal with that issue later this week. For now? I’m basking in Tom Cruise Week.

Valkyrie isn’t one of Tom Cruise’s best films but I enjoy revisiting this from time-to-time because the story is interesting, Cruise is good, and the entire ensemble is made of quality actors. Some would call this a “dad film” but I just think it’s decent moviemaking.

Digger (🌟🌟🌟🌟) is Tom Cruise’s most vulnerable performance since The Last Samurai. In both films, you forget that Cruise is inarguably Cinema’s greatest action star because of his humanity. Just two incredibly raw performances that only a true actor could pull off. The Last Samurai is another exhibit that supports my general thesis that Tom Cruise’s acting skills are still incredibly undervalued.

Born on the Fourth of July nearly won Tom Cruise an Oscar for Best Actor back in 1990, but Cruise ran into the force of nature that is Daniel Day-Lewis, who won for My Left Foot. This is a painful story about the sacrifices veterans make & it’s some of Cruise’s best acting. I think the Cruise-Oliver Stone pairing is interesting in hindsight. 26 years later, Cruise might finally get that Oscar for Digger.

‘EDGE OF TOMORROW 2’ is reportedly in the works. Production could begin in Fall 2026. Emily Blunt said this before: “Tell Tom Cruise to stop making Mission Impossible movies, and then you’re going to get a sequel. Okay?”

American Made is one of Tom Cruise’s more under-appreciated films. I don’t think this is anything groundbreaking that you need to write home about, but this is a super entertaining time with Cruise, who doesn’t take himself that seriously in this film. Definitely worth a watch.

Michael Keaton’s loss for the Oscar for Best Actor for Birdman has never sat right with me & it feels more relevant now than ever considering Tom Cruise’s work in Digger. There are so many parallels to the two performances but whether Cruise gets snubbed remains to be seen. I think this is a career-defining performance from Keaton & deserved to win Best Actor the same way Cruise deserves to win for Digger.

One year from now, Tom Cruise might be in a position to finally win the #Oscar for Best Actor. Cruise’s upcoming release Digger is said to be one of his most audacious performances. When Cruise wants to be, he’s as good of a dramatic actor in Hollywood. For example - Collateral.

Jesse Plemons makes every film better. Period. End of story. All this guy ever does is show up in films & crush it. Such is the case with his performance in #Digger (🌟🌟🌟🌟). Plemons & Tom Cruise have palpable chemistry & Plemons steals a huge moment in the film’s final third. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life watching this guy make movies.

Edge of Tomorrow is the best sci-fi action movie of the last 20 years and it’s not even close. Tom Cruise dies like 300 times just to look cooler than every other actor’s career peak. 🎬🎥 Edge Of Tomorrow ❤️🔥
