The novel by Charles Portis - which came out a year before - is terrific. The Coen brothers' version follows it a little more carefully, especially the ending.

Great, great, film. Saw it, first-run...

I have never seen this movie. I remember seeing the Jeff Bridges remake and enjoying it. I do love John Wayne. An iconic actor that built a career making westerns. Loved his role in The Searchers. So I will keep this on my watchlist. Here’s why:

What a great scene. First saw this film at the theater, then dozens of times on VHS, Disc, BLU ray, streaming ...It's not about Rooster, it's about Mattie Ross

Next time my boss calls me in for a meeting I'm yelling FILL YOUR HAND YOU SONOFABITCH
One of the best lines in all of filmdom

Must have seen this a dozen+ times in theaters back in the day. In 1970, it was inexplicably double-billed by Paramount w/ "The Sterile Cuckoo" (another childhood fave rave that I saw multiple times). The Coen Brothers TG is great, too, but I missed Glen Campbell's theme song.

Iconic! Love the sequel, love the remake, love the book, but this is my favourite of all I think.

Such a great scene.
