The much-awaited #UMAGINETN2026, the 4th edition of Tamil Nadu’s flagship technology conference, has begun at the Chennai Trade Centre. I am deeply grateful to our Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru. His vision of inclusive, equitable, and technology-led development continues to inspire platforms like UMAGINE. As highlighted in my inaugural address, UMAGINE reflects our intent to advance “inclusion begins with exposure”—bringing global ideas, innovators, and experiences to our professionals and students, sparking imagination and inspiring a better tomorrow. 🔥 CONVICTION 2026 – DAY 1 RECAP The first day of Conviction 2026 has officially come to a close — and “exciting” may not even begin to capture everything that happened today. From the main stage to every experience zone, Conviction truly became a place where policy, technology, businesses, and communities came together. A day of major milestones 📍 Conviction 2026 was honored to welcome the Deputy Prime Minister, leaders from ministries and government agencies, and the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, who joined us, delivered keynote remarks, and took part in the official opening ceremony, marking the beginning of a national-scale technology event. On stage, important discussions explored regulatory frameworks and development policies for Blockchain & digital assets, tokenization, stablecoins, AI Agents, and the future of the digital economy, bringing together policymakers, experts, and leading industry voices. Day 1 was also marked by significant milestones in collaboration, including the signing ceremony between Ninety Eight and Chống Lừa Đảo, aimed at building a safer digital environment, as well as the signing ceremony between EIC and Busan Techno Park, continuing the longstanding sister-city relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan and opening new opportunities for a digital corridor between the two cities. Impact After Term | 13 : iTNT Hub — Scaling Tamil Nadu's Deep Tech Ecosystem (Part 2) Establishing iTNT Hub was only the first step. The larger vision was to ensure that Tamil Nadu's emerging Deep Tech ecosystem extended beyond Chennai, enabling innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs across the State to participate in the technologies shaping the future. Under the leadership of Dr. PTR as Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, iTNT Hub expanded through regional centres in Tiruchirappalli, Madurai and Coimbatore. By bringing world-class infrastructure, mentoring, industry partnerships and access to investment closer to Tier-II and Tier-III cities, the initiative laid the foundation for a more decentralised innovation ecosystem. To strengthen early-stage Deep Tech entrepreneurship, the FOUNDATION Fund was launched, through which the first five startups received ₹53 lakh in seed funding. The Deep Tech Hardware Product Design Scheme further supported indigenous hardware innovation by providing grants of up to ₹15 lakh for product design and development. Recognising that innovation achieves its greatest value only when research reaches the marketplace, the Tamil Nadu Technology Transfer Facilitation Centre (TNTTFC) was established in July 2025. Through patent facilitation, IP management, Innovation Spotlight and the Research2Revenue programme, the initiative has already enabled more than 60 patent filings while helping researchers translate ideas into commercially viable technologies. Announced by Dr. PTR in the Legislative Assembly in June 2024 and successfully held on 30 July 2025, the Innovate in TN IP Conclave strengthened Tamil Nadu's intellectual property ecosystem. Bringing together organisations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Indian Patent Office, NASSCOM, C-DAC, Bosch and Mahindra & Mahindra, the conclave showcased 16 emerging technologies, facilitated four technology transfers to industry, and connected 44 researchers and startups with iTNT Hub's pre-incubation and acceleration programmes. During this period, iTNT Hub also expanded Tamil Nadu's global innovation network through collaborations with leading universities, research institutions and industry partners in India and abroad. Partnerships with organisations such as the University of Melbourne, Rutgers University, Bosch, Amazon Web Services, Rolls-Royce, C-DAC and others opened new opportunities for technology collaboration, industry engagement and global market access for startups. These initiatives culminated in the launch of the Tamil Nadu Deep Tech Startup Policy at UmagineTN 2026, providing the State with its first comprehensive policy framework dedicated to accelerating Deep Tech innovation, strengthening research commercialisation and building globally competitive technology enterprises. Together, these initiatives transformed iTNT Hub from an innovation platform into a comprehensive Deep Tech ecosystem—connecting research, entrepreneurship, industry, investment and public policy. Recognising that innovation achieves its greatest value only when research reaches the marketplace, the Tamil Nadu Technology Transfer Facilitation Centre (TNTTFC) was established in July 2025. Through patent facilitation, IP management, Innovation Spotlight and the Research2Revenue programme, the initiative has already enabled more than 60 patent filings while helping researchers translate ideas into commercially viable technologies. Announced by Dr. PTR in the Legislative Assembly in June 2024 and successfully held on 30 July 2025, the Innovate in TN IP Conclave strengthened Tamil Nadu's intellectual property ecosystem. Bringing together organisations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Indian Patent Office, NASSCOM, C-DAC, Bosch and Mahindra & Mahindra, the conclave showcased 16 emerging technologies, facilitated four technology transfers to industry, and connected 44 researchers and startups with iTNT Hub's pre-incubation and acceleration programmes. During this period, iTNT Hub also expanded Tamil Nadu's global innovation network through collaborations with leading universities, research institutions and industry partners in India and abroad. Partnerships with organisations such as the University of Melbourne, Rutgers University, Bosch, Amazon Web Services, Rolls-Royce, C-DAC and others opened new opportunities for technology collaboration, industry engagement and global market access for startups. These initiatives culminated in the launch of the Tamil Nadu Deep Tech Startup Policy at UmagineTN 2026, providing the State with its first comprehensive policy framework dedicated to accelerating Deep Tech innovation, strengthening research commercialisation and building globally competitive technology enterprises. Among its most significant has been the Tamil Digital Library—created to preserve centuries of Tamil literature, manuscripts, archival records and cultural resources in digital form, while making them freely accessible to students, researchers and Tamil communities worldwide. Following the formation of the DMK Government in 2021, the Tamil Digital Library underwent a significant transformation. As Minister for Finance and Human Resources Management, Dr. PTR allocated ₹96.65 lakh in the 2022–23 Budget to accelerate the digitisation of rare books, manuscripts and archival collections. After assuming charge as Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, he oversaw the next phase of its expansion, broadening both its scale and public accessibility. Today, the Tamil Digital Library hosts over one lakh rare books, manuscripts, journals and historical records. Nearly 19.89 lakh pages have been digitised, including over eight lakh palm-leaf manuscript pages, thousands of rare photographs and hundreds of hours of archival audio-visual material—creating one of the largest digital knowledge repositories dedicated to an Indian language. I had the incredible honour of serving as the Master of Ceremonies at the inaugural global conference on Artificial Intelligence in Political Campaigns, held in Cape Town, South Africa this past week. With 130 delegates from almost 30 countries, I understand this event achieved two significant milestones: hosting the world's first political campaign expo and the first conference focused on AI in Political Campaigns. The conference explored pressing topics such as: - the role of AI in shaping modern political campaigns, - AI and big data in political campaigns, - navigating truth and deception in political communication in the AI era, - and the regulation of AI in political campaigns. These discussions shed light on Africa's readiness for this technological advancement and the unique challenges it presents, ensuring our continent's active participation in shaping the future of AI. It was particularly encouraging to see more than 20 African countries represented, including representatives of electoral management bodies and members of ruling and opposition parties all in one room. The theme of the conference was "Transforming Political Campaigns: How AI and Big Data Amplify Voter Engagement and Shape Political Campaigns in Africa". Supported by International IDEA, Afrobarometer, 22 @ Sloan, and Shikamo Political Advisory and Campaigns Services, the event brought together global experts in political campaigns, researchers and academics, policymakers, and tech giants to explore the potential of AI. The conference provided valuable insights into pressing issues and raised important questions regarding the regulation of a technology that is still developing; Africa's readiness to embrace AI; the impact of deepfake videos during elections especially in Africa; and the prioritisation of legislative efforts over adaptation to the African context - some attendees asked why people were more concerned with legislating the use of AI as opposed to adapting it to the African context and making it fit for purpose on the continent. With more than 60 elections taking place worldwide in 2024, including 24 in Africa, it promises to be an interesting year for electoral processes. Maharashtra’s AI Moment! Driving Innovation, Investment and Inclusive Growth Inaugurated 'Mumbai Tech Week 2026' in Mumbai and shared insights during the fireside chat on ‘Maharashtra’s AI Vision’. Under the visionary guidance of Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji, Maharashtra has emerged as one of the leading players in the AI revolution. Shared Maharashtra’s vision to attract ₹10,000 crore in AI investments, generate 1,50,000 employment opportunities, establish 6 Centres of Excellence and develop dedicated AI Innovation Zones across the state. Maharashtra is developing a ‘Compute-as-a-Service’ platform to accelerate AI research and innovation by providing startups and researchers access to 2000 GPUs. Today in my constituency, Masaka City - Kijjabwemi, I had the distinct honour of representing H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri K Museveni , at the Mothers' Union Buganda Annual Conference and the commemoration of 150 Years of the Global Mothers' Union. The conference brought together delegates from the six dioceses of Buganda - Namirembe, Mukono, Luweero, Mityana, Central Buganda and West Buganda - under the theme _"Lighting the Way for Generations to Come."_ In his message, which I delivered on his behalf, H.E. the President, together with Maama Janet K. Museveni , thanked the Almighty God for 150 years of continuous Christian service, family nurture and community upliftment. He commended the leadership of Mothers' Union Buganda, led by President Josephine Kasaato, for being an unwavering pillar of Christian faith and a moral compass anchoring households in biblical values. The President particularly applauded the practical initiatives of this conference - the business expo and community health camp - noting that true faith must be active and responsive to the physical and economic needs of the people. He noted that you cannot have spiritual light in a home with extreme poverty and disease; true light means food security, financial security and good health. He further commended the Mothers' Union Buganda SACCO for promoting a culture of saving and investment, and reiterated that when a woman is economically empowered, the entire household is transformed. He reminded the mothers that the real medicine against poverty (obwaavu) is wealth and job creation in the four sectors of commercial agriculture, industry, services and ICT, and urged every family to take advantage of the peace, infrastructure and wealth funds put in place by the NRM Government to create household wealth. He called upon every delegate to return to their dioceses as agents of both spiritual renewal and socio-economic transformation. On support to the Union, as you may recall, H.E. the President had earlier extended *UGX 500 million* to the Mothers' Union Buganda SACCO as a revolving fund, which the mothers are using prudently. Today, he sent me with an additional UGX 20 million to support the hosting of this historic conference. The host school, Kijjabwemi C.O.U. S.S, expressed deep appreciation to H.E. the President for his consistent support, including the construction of modern laboratories, the termly capitation grants, and teachers on the government payroll. The Headteacher, however, appealed for support towards a 5-storeyed classroom block to accommodate more learners, as Kijjabwemi is the biggest school in this community where most families are still raising the first generation of literate children. On this request, I was very clear: This is exactly why I vehemently rejected the suspicious plan by the Masaka City Mayor to build city offices worth UGX 14 billion! We are in the Kisanja of no more sleep and no more corruption - a Kisanja of priorities among priorities! You cannot aspire to build offices worth 14 billion while the very schools and health centres in the same city are limping, our markets are non-existent, and our women's groups still need support. We must prioritize what touches the lives of our people first. I thank the Mothers' Union Buganda for the warm reception and for their tireless service to God, family and country. It’s a wrap! The Innovation Summit North America 2025, which was powered by Schneider Electric, was an incredible, thought-provoking experience. As I share in this video, one of the highlights of my time at the event in Las Vegas was touring the Innovation Park (three times, I think!). The Innovation Park was a large, 45,000-square-foot exhibit space where attendees could engage in hands-on demonstrations and explore cutting-edge technologies and solutions related to energy management, automation, AI, and sustainable infrastructure. Industry leaders and experts provided insights and practical strategies within this interactive environment. I am pretty sure I left the Park with 3 new certifications. However, two of my favorite themes that emerged from ISNA2025 weren’t necessarily technology-focused - - and they really reinforced what I already know to be true: - - The most successful companies in the world know that one of the best ways of optimizing innovation & resilience is by investing in their supply chain ecosystem. I think Schneider Electric illustrates that perfectly. As just one example, the company is working closely with thousands of its suppliers to explore new supply chain decarbonization approaches. Innovations & outcomes certainly come out of these investments, but more importantly, they build trust. And you can move mountains with trust. - - Digital transformation starts with the powerful human factor. And there are tremendous opportunities available, especially to those who are willing to: Learn, Apply, & Volunteer. Those amongst us who are willing to learn and apply something new every day, as well as volunteer for new projects & initiatives: the sky is the limit. As Tom Wilk with Plant Services mentioned to me, the theme of this golden age of supply chain tech should be the lyrics from a John Fogerty song: “Oh, put me in, coach!
