Mirage was the new human-buddy lead in #Transformers ROTB. The studio wanted a character other than Bumblebee to have that role and be in the spotlight with Optimus Prime. He was designed to look "handsome" and to be sporty. He was the only character in the film with more than 1 alternate form. He had a total of 4 that we built in 3D (1 of which was cut from the film) and 1 that was only in live action (the garbage truck). I served as the asset Lead and did the Primary Texturing & Look Development for him. I also modelled and designed his eyes, upgrading them from what we had originally in the concept and ref. We spent a lot of time getting his car paint to look correct in shots, matching closely to on set reference pictures of the Porsche. At the end of the film, Mirage gives up his life and becomes the Exo-suit for Noah. The suit was built separately, using the same tooling and systems as Mirage to ensure visual continuity between them for the transformation from Mirage to Noah Exo-suit. He was voice acted by Pete Davidson, a change which was made later in production. The animators tried to introduce some of Pete's mannerisms into Mirage's animations too. Overall he was a character which was a lot of fun to work on and I'm proud of the work the team did to get him to look the way he does in the final film. CREDITS Primary Modelling by Lilian Robert. Final Texturing & LookDev by Martin Kamminga. Various other artists supported the creation of Mirage and the Exo-suit. The Exo-suit and Mirage were sent to WetaFX for the final sequence. NUP Leadership Vs NBS Television: Why The Fuss? I’ve been seeing a lot of tweets on this issue and I don’t quite understand what the fuss is about. If some National Unity Platform members don’t wanna participate in debates organized by a TV station they think is biased against them, it’s perfectly within their rights. Thats how democracy works. What I don’t quite understand are the reasons being given by the NUP leaders and their acolytes. It can’t be that they absolutely abhor NBS Television and it is party policy not to appear there. That’s blatant hypocrisy right there. I’ll use this panel on the same TV station just over 2 weeks ago. (See video) The NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya did appear on that panel but from a separate room. From what Mathias Mpuuga said on air that day, Mr Rubongoya was in the building around the time the program was set to start but probably opted not to physically sit in the same space as the rest of the panelists. From how quickly Simon Kaggwa Njala tried to diffuse that line of questioning from Mr Mpuuga, it appears that the media house made a special arrangement to accommodate Mr Rubongoya’s demands to not physically be present in studio but somehow be on the program while on NBS premises. A few questions arise: 1-What’s the difference between attending this panel with their newly found arch-enemy Mpuuga and attending a debate with a Kampala Central political upstart Luzzi? Why not just go and run rings around him? It can’t be that you suddenly don’t trust the station you appeared on a few weeks back and actually had your own party president appear on weeks earlier. 2-If the people who say they’re going to remove a 40 year regime can’t face a one Luzzi, what convinces ANYONE that these fellows have the testicular fortitude to face a Museveni? 3-Why is it that other respected party members like George Musisi and Muwanga Kivumbi Muhammad (I’m not sure about this one being respected) have expressed willingness to attend these debates on the same TV station? Could it be that the party flag bearers who think they’re in the lead in their races don’t want to take the risk of being exposed on national TV and lose a step while the underdogs in their races like Mr Musisi need the exposure and potential change in momentum that comes with it? Why not just say that, instead of playing fast and loose with the truth? To me, this is just the usual sleight of hand from that party. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to show the masses that they don’t really stand on business. It’s just shape-shifting and finger pointing. Not much else. #NUPSpotlight

Driving Gloves And The Spreadsheet That Conquered the World And Vanished In October 1979, weeks after VisiCalc shipped as the very first electronic spreadsheet for the Apple II, I was already teaching it in offices across New Jersey. Just a punk kid talking to suits No connections, no inside track just a me with the original disks and a room full of wide-eyed accountants who had never seen anything like it. Then, on the week Lotus 1-2-3 officially launched January 26, 1983, I walked into Computerland of Somerville as their external trainer. Snow on the ground, radiators hissing, and executives from some of New Jersey’s biggest companies treating every @ function and macro like sacred knowledge. I trained them on Release 1 straight out of the box. They all believed they were building something permanent. Back then, the spreadsheet was supposed to be the ultimate moat. Wall Street analysts, CIOs, and tech prophets declared it the forever business. Lotus was the killer app that sold the IBM PC. Profits looked eternal. No one, not a single person I trained, not a single expert writing in the trade press would have believed you if you said that one day nobody would care what brand of spreadsheet they used. “Good enough” was good enough? They would have laughed you out of the room. Yet that is exactly what happened. By the late 1980s Lotus had doubled down with Release 3. It was a technological leap 3D worksheets, better graphics, rewritten in C but it came at a steep price. The list price was $495, more than $1,330 in today’s dollars. And that was just the software. To run it “all in” you needed a high-end 286 or 386 PC, a hard disk, and at least 2 MB of RAM, hardware that typically cost $3,000 to $6,000 in 1989 (roughly $8,000 to $16,000 in today’s dollars). The full setup per workstation easily pushed the total investment to $4,000–$7,000 back then, or well over $10,000–$19,000 when adjusted for inflation. Companies paid it because they thought the moat was permanent. They were wrong. Microsoft Excel arrived: good enough, and perfectly timed with the Windows boom. Then came cheaper competitors, open-source, cloud spreadsheets, and finally free, ubiquitous options baked into every laptop and phone. The “spreadsheet market” as a distinct, high-margin category simply evaporated. Today, no one under forty even thinks about it. It’s infrastructure, like electricity or paper. Invisible. Commodity. The brand name that once defined an entire industry is a footnote. Look around your life right now and you’ll see the same pattern everywhere. We are not surrounded by the absolute best products, nor by the absolute cheapest. We are surrounded by the good enough ones that won. The operating system on your phone, the video app you use, the note-taking tool you open every day, none of them are perfect, but they are accessible, cheap or free, and they spread like wildfire until they became the default. That is precisely where we are headed with artificial intelligence. The smartest voices today insist AGI and ASI will remain scarce, proprietary, and eternally profitable. They talk about intelligence as the ultimate moat. I smile when I hear it because I’ve lived this exact story before, on those freezing mornings in Somerville, New Jersey. Coding AIs like Claude (or whatever comes next) will soon be so common, so freely available, and so embedded in everything that no one will pay premium prices for them, just as no one pays premium prices for spreadsheets anymore. The intelligence layer will become generic. Cheap. Everywhere. Invisible. “Good enough” always wins. History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes and the rhyme this time is going to rewrite every industry, including the one that thinks it’s building the final, unassailable moat. The poor fellow doesn't even have a place to live in Moscow. After his transfer to the capital, Alexander Sukonkin was provided with a company apartment from the state fund for comfortable living and work. At the end of 2024, due to the lack of his own housing in Moscow, as a low-income person, he received a one-time housing subsidy from the federal budget in excess of 20 million rubles. As our project discovered, Sukonkin's children are in a much better housing situation. In 2021, a month after his appointment to the Moscow Center and gaining access to construction funds, Alexander Sukonkin registered a premium-class apartment of 78.4 square meters in the Xeadliner residential complex (39 Shmitovsky Proezd, Bldg. 2) with views of Moscow City in the name of his minor daughter Marina (she was 15 at the time).
