Umpire makes the most unnecessary call, a breakdown throwback

This ump is 100% wrong on the rules and on his judgement, as such should be fired and banned for life.

Nothing is more unnecessary than those stupid Covid masks 😷 😂

Terrible call. 1- the runner was out before any obstruction happened. 2- the runner initiated the contact and moved well into fair ground. 3- any contact was incidental

I think major league baseball should be the first professional sport to get rid of actual umpires. Balls, strikes, outs, etc, will be called by AI virtual umpires. The sport will then have zero mistakes and bad calls like this one.

The pitcher did nothing wrong. Under Baseball Rule 5.09(a)(11), the pitcher has a legal right to follow through w/their throw. B/C the runner chose to run in fair territory, abandoning the protected runner's lane on the foul side, the runner assumes all liability for any collisio

Ump got money on the game or something

The white box along the first baseline in foul territory is the runner’s lane. It is designed to prevent interference by requiring the batter-runner to stay in this specific path during the final 45 feet to first base. Why does baseball not just follow the rules of the runner’s lane?

Jom, did the pitcher get in the runner’s way and cause the runner to deviate from his path? Be honest. Also, it’s called “obstruction” not interference. Step one is getting that verbiage correct.

Are calls like this the reason the umpire is wearing a mask?

I remember this as a brewers fan. I was irate at my TV at the time. Every time I see this replay, it's a reminder of some BS. The reason the runner is even in the grass is because he gave up on running the play out once the pitcher tossed it. So he got lazy and slowed up. The pitcher is allowed to play the ball. And he stopped himself from crossing the base path. No contact was even made - but even if so - it was after he was already out anyways and had given up. Terrible call. I would hope today something like this can be reviewed.

The runner is technically, supposed to be in between the 2 white stripes (the runners lane), heading to first base

Godley should have just tagged the batter-runner. Under today's rules, Isan Diaz is called out for leaving the baseline. Then Davey Martinez will randomly appear out of nowhere to argue the call and get ejected.

Why I don't watch baseball anymore. Pure bs. Pitcher never entered the base path. Is that umpire paid off on the game? Gotta ask on a call like that.

I swear the umpires don’t want jobs anymore. They are so bad. Bring on the robots I guess. Ridiculous.

Sports betting and ref had money on Miami.

When is this from? I don't remember this at all. Crazy call, though.

Why didn't the home plate ump over rule? The runner wasn't in his base path and caused the obstruction.

Essentially the ump should be looked at past calls. Probably being paid under the table from Vito

did the ump acknowledge his mistake or get reprimanded

The ump is wrong and there was no obstruction as the runner was not in the running lane and was actually running in the field of play. Horrible call and it should have been overturned.

Runner has to be running between the white lines. Umpire is a narcissistic jackass.

Bro had money on that game

Runner is out of the base line. That’s what the 2 lines are for. Run between them otherwise out of the base line.

You mean obstruction. Interference is a violation by the offense.

Counsell not going off on that ump is another reason I'm glad he's in Chicago now.

Well, at least he has on his mask

Look at the first base umpire wearing a mask tells you everything you kneed to know!

The ump deserves a shovel to the face.

Can somebody explain how that is interference when the base runner didn't go between the two white lines? that they're required to go through

Because it’s fixed just like the NFL and Basketball. Remember these are business and they need to make money and if think it’s not all fixed your a Retard

Fire the umpire. @MLB this is why I no longer watch baseball.

You are making baseball unwatchable with new rules.

That umpire needs to go back to umpire school. The runner is clearly out of the baseline.

Are they trying to regain relevance since ABS and replay?
