Unauthorised hawking inside trains or railway premises comes under Section 144 of Railways Act, 1989 and the punishment is ₹2000 but no where it says Police authorities can throw the seized material in the tracks and make it dirty. Such a sad thing to see.

Wonder what stops Ministry of Railways Central Railway DRM Mumbai CR to clear these illegal structures beside the railway tracks between Vadala Road & GTB, some of them are between tracks, under the bridge & few taller than the Rail bridge itself posing a safety hazard. If Western Railway can do it at #Bandra East, why can't you recliam it. The stink is nauseating as one travels this section.

This is a violation of safety rules and could potentially be considered a crime under section 151, 153, 164 and 165 of Indian Railway Act 1989. There are FIRs against us if we offer Namaz silently in a corner. Is this allowed? That too doing Arti in a train puts other lives in danger by using fire. VIDEO | Kolkata: Reacting to the Murshidabad railway crossing accident, TMC leader Mahua Moitra says, "An incident took place today in Govindapur, Murshidabad, where the railway gate was not lowered when a school van carrying five children was crossing. The children have died. It is a very sad incident. The Railway Ministry must clamp down on this system because anything that depends on human intervention, where a person is responsible for closing a gate, is prone to human error. It is high time we moved to a fully automated system, and I would urge the Railway Minister to treat this as a top priority. Unfortunately, safety issues in India continue to receive very low priority. Even in 2026, we are witnessing deaths like these, where a vehicle crosses a railway track and children lose their lives. We have also seen the KAVACH system. It is supposed to cover the entire railway network, but that has still not happened. While a high-speed railway line worth Rs 1.30 lakh crore has been built between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the cost of covering the entire Indian Railways network with KAVACH is around Rs 63,000 crore. Yet that has not been completed. We have no objection to high-speed railways, but we believe the Railways' priority should be safety measures, both on the tracks and in situations like this."

Yesterday, on May 30, 2025, Kolkata Police unlawfully entered Sealdah Railway Station, harassed innocent passengers, forcibly checked identities in order to identify sacked Teachers, beat up commuters indiscriminately and forcibly detained Teachers who were simply commuting, not protesting or agitating within the Sealdah Station premises. These teachers, victims of the 2016 SSC Recruitment Scam, planned a peaceful march to Nabanna but were met with excessive force, including manhandling and dragging into prison vans like hardened criminals. This is a blatant violation of Railway Jurisdiction under the Union Ministry of Railways and an attack on democratic rights. This isn’t the first time, similar overreaches occurred in 2022 (BJP’s Nabanna Abhijan) at several Railway Stations across West Bengal and at Metro Stations in 2023-24 to suppress protests of TET Candidates and other deprived eligible WB Govt Job Seekers. Despite raising this with the Sealdah DRM, no action has yet been taken. So, I’ve urged Hon’ble Railway Minister; Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji to intervene and ensure such violations by Kolkata Police & West Bengal Police stop immediately. The rights of passengers and the sanctity of Railway premises must be protected, it can't be a allowed to be turned into a platform where Kolkata Police & West Bengal Police trample upon democratic freedom at will. The police are trying to go to someone’s door when a neighbor comes out and starts telling the police what to do, acting like she owns the building or is management. She keeps shouting at the officers. They ask her to please go inside because she’s interrupting their work. Where do you draw the line? When does it become harassment? They asked her to go inside, she refused and kept at it, and she ended up getting arrested. In my opinion, the police did the right thing. Where do you think the line is?

Oh please, National Railways of Zimbabwe, stop with this cheap propaganda. Beitbridge Bulawayo Railway (BBR) is a privately owned company, but Zimbabwe’s railway system is and should be regulated by the Government of Zimbabwe through the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), a state-owned enterprise (parastatal) whose chairman is a ZANUPF politician, Mike Madiro. BBR operates under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement, allowing it to function within the national railway framework while adhering to standards set forth by the NRZ and the Ministry of Transport. While BBR is a private company, NRZ holds a 15% stake in BBR, meaning it has a partial ownership interest. NRZ and BBR have also signed an open access agreement which allows BBR to utilise NRZ’s network and NRZ to use the BBR infrastructure. Are you saying your trains use a railway network that you don’t inspect? The national railway network currently has numerous speed restrictions due to track defects, totalling over 254 km. These defects cause derailments and delays, as acknowledged by the state media’s Chronicle newspaper of December 5, 2023. This again falls on your doorstep. The oversight of railway operations in Zimbabwe, including those of BBR, falls under the purview of the Ministry of Transport. This ministry is responsible for setting policies and railway standards for the sector in Zimbabwe, including for BBR. The supervision is done by the NRZ! So please, spare us this pathetic attempt to exclusively throw the blame at BBR. When you build a house, it needs express authority of the council to certify it fit, when you run a railway line it requires state supervision through the NRZ, something that doesn’t work in Zimbabwe because of incompetence! You should have read the Railways Act [Chapter 13:09] which provides a regulatory framework before putting out this propaganda tweet. That law extends to the oversight of all railway operations within Zimbabwe, including those conducted by private operators. Even though private railway companies like BBR are not explicitly detailed in the Act, because you cannot name all companies in a law, the overall responsibility for setting standards, ensuring safety, and supervising railway operations falls under public authority, particularly through the Ministry of Transport and the NRZ.
