Great question! 🤔 How do you simulate *multiple* layers of glass/refraction in video games? In the last breakdown, I discussed how to create a glass shader in Unity URP. In essence, we were taking the render of the scene from the camera without any transparent objects. This is available in URP as the global _CameraOpaqueTexture. This is good enough for most use-cases, and more or less the classic way of doing it. 🔍 What is _CameraOpaqueTexture? As the name implies, there are no transparent objects rendered into this texture, so it's not possible by default to have something like a transparent-type ocean material/shader rendered through a refractive glass shader (which samples and distorts this texture to render on its surface, as if it's transparent). ⚠️ Why it’s tricky: It's much easier to sort without much further setup if you don't have refraction, and only a transparent material, because in that case you're not simulating the transparency yourself via sampling the rendered scene texture. But for refraction, it's required-- unless you want to go down the ray/path tracing route. You could simulate accurate, real dispersion... and that's about as expensive as it sounds, and it requires a rework of your entire rendering. --> 🚫 It's not a viable suggestion to offer. 📚 There are well-known terms regarding transparency sorting you can search up, but as you've specifically asked for refractive boxes, I'll discuss briefly about that. 🧱 Simulating layers of refraction: For this kind of rendering, you need some way to render the backfaces before rendering the front. And the backfaces that are rendered may contain whatever data you'd like for additional processing in the layer front-facing mesh render. 🧪 Examples: You could render the back face as a glass shader of its own, as an intermediate step after _CameraOpaqueTexture. Then you sample this texture instead and you end up with multi-layered refraction, "just like that". You can also render the back normals only, via a fully opaque shader, and use that to manually account for that during the front render. You could even bake in data needed for thickness in realtime. 🛠️ Without making it complicated for yourself, the most straightforward method is via render textures, and you can easily set some fractional resolution. Cameras in Unity have an open slot for target textures to render to. You can use custom render textures to process _SelfTexture2D. ⏱️ It's great to do low-resolution processing for more complex tasks, like blurring and caustics. You can get massive performance boosts, considering the square law and number of pixels/fragments that need calculations (quadratic scaling). 🚧 I've not fully exploited the possibilities myself, but research/development with PRISM is ongoing!

✨ Added a CRT curvature distortion to pieter™ now It takes the Em-DOSBox and processes it in WebGL and builds a new with the distortion of a classic CRT screen which had this convex curvature (like an old TV) even though the screen itself was square I had this working on DOSBox on MacOS and on Linux with CRT-Pi shader, but on web it doesn't support shaders so I had to build my own with Claude Code in JS, very easy I remember trying this a year ago and Claude Code fucked it up so bad that I gave up, so I think the models have improved a lot Tomorrow I'll try add some scanlines, it really helps make the simulation more passable (and nostalgic!) 😊👌

ALRIGHT! Introducing SEEDTHREE! A Three.js webgpu procedural plant generator. I'm releasing this fully open source. I built this with Claude Fable and GPT-5.5 Codex + gptimage2 over just the past few days. The best part is: given the code, your agents can add new plants to it all you want! They just need an understanding of the code and an image generator capable of creating material maps. I highly encourage you to do PRs for any extra plants you add! I'll be adding more myself in future versions. The system is fully robust: it provides complete LOD and billboards/imposters generation for the plants and you can adjust the detail levels all you want for different platform targets like mobile and/or use lower LODs as your main for extreme optimization. As this is the first release alpha version, some bugs may have been missed, I encourage you to report any bugs. The repo includes all the assets for the scenery world too, even the ambient sounds of birds and wind! This is targeted at high end laptop and PC use, it requires baking generated geometry, so you won't be using this on a phone (I mean, feel free to try, but I doubt it'll run well, lol). This is fundamentally an asset generation tool for 3d dev. Have fun! Github repo link and live demo (you don't even have to download anything for basic non-editing/contributing use!) below ⤵️

I made tons of money building websites for people and small companies. Most of that is now gone. You can now generate, customize, and deploy a website using natural language. I recorded myself building a site from scratch using 10Web.io. 4 minutes later, I had a full website generated just for me. Crazy! That's mostly how I paid rent when I graduated college: I'd either build you a new site or make changes to an existing one. It's nuts anyone can do that today by just asking. But this doesn't stop with generating a website. 10Web also released an AI Copilot that you can use to edit a website with a chat-based AI assistant. Here is what you can do with the AI Copilot: 1. You can edit individual elements and widgets on your site by selecting them and describing the changes you want. 2. You can generate new images, create sections, and generate or edit text. 3. You can also add any new elements to the site. I’m blown away by the quality of the landing pages that Opus 5 can create in Three.js. Prompting it with "orbit using mouse" is enough to create a 3D parallax effect. The same goes for "add particles to pointer." It’s like creating a living, breathing world. More prompts I used: - Add a butterfly that flies to the branch and flies away when I mouse over it. - During the intro, first load a wireframe of the branches, similar to the field-scanning effect in Death Stranding. - Add a scan effect to the card images while they load. Then I asked it to use the shader buttons and nav bar I made in previous projects. As explained in my last video, I started with an inspiration and the prompt, “Recreate this in Three.js in a single HTML file. Self-verify until perfect.” Opus 5 ran for two hours. All the code is less than 1 MB. Inspiration: Let me know if I should open-source this.

This guy is over it with all the unnecessary apps and “smart” everything. He bought a light bulb that wants him to download an app just to turn it on. Then he goes off about appliances that beep like they just landed on the moon, fridges with iPad screens, and how ridiculous passwords have gotten. He’s basically saying we’ve overcomplicated everything for no reason. A lot of people are feeling this way lately. Do you think we’ve gone too far with smart technology and apps, or do you like having everything connected? I think it's gotten out of control as well.

People have been asking to see a clip of me using my BCI. So here's a little clip of me throwing together the simplest of beats with Logic Pro. It's been five years since I have used this software regularly, and frankly I'm out of practice, there have been a lot of updates, and I'm going to need to do a little bit of learning and catch up to be able to use it as effectively as I'd like. But for slapping together a simple sloppy beat for the first time in five years, I like it. Also, I trail off in the middle of the first or second sentence. We're just going to slap... "something sloppy together" is the part that was in my head and I should have said out loud. Love you guys. Thanks for the love. Be good, do good. To me, it's an unserious roster right now -- no bigs outside of Gobert and Beringer. If they roll into the season with this group, it will be spun as "unconventional" or "where the game is moving" or "loading...". But in reality, it would just be unserious for a team with title aspirations to have the starting power forward be Ayo Dosunmu (a PG last year) or Trey Lyles (not in the NBA last year). Could be fun. Wouldn't be serious. However... if they do trade some combination of Green/DiVincenzo/Shannon for a legitimate 4, then I think it's fair to say the Wolves have improved as much as anyone in the West this summer. And that's with no LeBron.

The first time I saw the Predator cloak effect, I knew I wanted to learn visual effects and make them part of my professional life. Turn the sound on — it makes the experience much more fun 😅 This is also a great exercise if you’re learning TSL and want to experiment with glass, dispersion, IOR, and custom shaders. Both the classic shader version and the new TSL version are included in the repo so you can compare the approaches side by side. Hope it’s useful. MCP now supports authentication using OAuth2. This is huge! I want to share a complete example (code) so you can learn how to use it. Here is the thing: You don't want to build agentic applications that access resources without proper guardrails. With authentication, you can: • Call third-party APIs on the user's behalf • Perform actions that should be traceable • Enforce different permissions for different roles Here is an MCP-based web shop demo, built with WorkOS AuthKit and Next.js. 🧑‍🏫 How to make a glass/refraction shader: 🍷 Refraction will ultimately have the effect that whatever is behind your mesh should appear distorted by the surface of the mesh itself. We're not going for external caustics projection, just modelling glass-like, distorting "transparency". 🌆 In Unity, you can sample the *global* _CameraOpaqueTexture (make sure it's enabled in your URP asset settings), which is what your scene looks like rendered without any transparent objects. In Shader Graph, you can simply use the Scene Colour node. 🔢 The UVs required for this texture are the normalized screen coordinates, so if we offset/warp/distort these coordinates and sample the texture, we ultimately produce a distorted image. We can offset the UVs by some normal map, as well as a refraction vector based on the direction from the camera -> the vertex/fragment (flip viewDir, which is otherwise vertex/fragment -> camera) and normals of the object. 📸 Input the (reversed) world space view direction and normal into HLSL refract. **Convert the refraction direction vector to tangent space before adding it to the screen UV.** Use the result to sample _CameraOpaqueTexture. refract(-worldViewDirection, worldNormal, eta); eta -> refraction ratio (from_IOR / to_IOR), > for air, 1.0 / indexOfRefraction (IOR). IOR of water = 1.33, glass = 1.54... 💡 You can also do naive "looks about right" hacks: fresnel -> normal from grayscale, which can be used for distortion. Or distort it any other way (without even specifically using refract at all), really... 🧠 Thus, even if your object is rendered as a transparent type (and vanilla Unity URP will require that it is), it is fully 'opaque' (max alpha), but it renders on its surface what is behind it, using the screen UV. If you distort those UVs by the camera view and normals of the surface it will be rendered on, it then appears like refractive glass on that surface. > Transparent render queue, but alpha = 1.0.

🧑‍🏫 How to make a glass/refraction shader: 🍷 Refraction will ultimately have the effect that whatever is behind your mesh should appear distorted by the surface of the mesh itself. We're not going for external caustics projection, just modelling glass-like, distorting "transparency". 🌆 In Unity, you can sample the *global* _CameraOpaqueTexture (make sure it's enabled in your URP asset settings), which is what your scene looks like rendered without any transparent objects. In Shader Graph, you can simply use the Scene Colour node. 🔢 The UVs required for this texture are the normalized screen coordinates, so if we offset/warp/distort these coordinates and sample the texture, we ultimately produce a distorted image. We can offset the UVs by some normal map, as well as a refraction vector based on the direction from the camera -> the vertex/fragment (flip viewDir, which is otherwise vertex/fragment -> camera) and normals of the object. 📸 Input the (reversed) world space view direction and normal into HLSL refract. **Convert the refraction direction vector to tangent space before adding it to the screen UV.** Use the result to sample _CameraOpaqueTexture. refract(-worldViewDirection, worldNormal, eta); eta -> refraction ratio (from_IOR / to_IOR), > for air, 1.0 / indexOfRefraction (IOR). IOR of water = 1.33, glass = 1.54... 💡 You can also do naive "looks about right" hacks: fresnel -> normal from grayscale, which can be used for distortion. Or distort it any other way (without even specifically using refract at all), really... 🧠 Thus, even if your object is rendered as a transparent type (and vanilla Unity URP will require that it is), it is fully 'opaque' (max alpha), but it renders on its surface what is behind it, using the screen UV. If you distort those UVs by the camera view and normals of the surface it will be rendered on, it then appears like refractive glass on that surface. > Transparent render queue, but alpha = 1.0.

I have been wanting to test performance transfer in Seadance 2.5 since launch, now I have, I am really impressed by the results. I wrote a short script and recorded myself giving a rallying speech as an orc warlord, then fed this and an image of the orc into Seedance with this prompt "A cinematic close up of an orc warlord giving a rallying speech to his army of orcs. Transfer the performance, movement and audio from Video 1 onto the the character Image 1. Do not add any music" I didn't prompt the dialogue or performance in text. The first video you see is a a final cut of the video, the second is the final cut of the video with my video performance. As you can see it's not an exact like-for-like transfer of the performance and voice but more a interpretation by Seedance. It's made my amateur performance better IMHO, more fitting with the creator but retain the essence, nuance and context. So you don't have to feed in a long prompt to get good performance out of your AI actors you can just show them what you want with a video! I used Seedance Enterprise on bytedances lumina platform Lumina link in the comments!

(kicad-cruncher is built on kicad-monkey) here we show the "design_review" (dr) command dr converts an altium project into a simple graph-spatial-topological format specifical design for llm's - json netlist with links with detail indexes into the schematic SVG elements/groups - enriched pcb SVG heavily decorated with links back to the the json graph - all schematic notes in json form - SVG schematic/pcb elements are heirachically grouped w/ tags for the llm to build its own internal map of subcircuits with linkage to copper artwork subsections. - full part parameter linkage - an .md with a guide for codex/claude on how to step through the eviscerated project. - bonus: schdoc and pcbdoc in a raw json serialized format (what altium uses internally but doesnt give you from teh gui). this format is the literal json form of the altium format essentially all of the resolved schematic graph, physical topology, layer stack information and metadata to do make best use of current frontier and local llm techbology it actually was an accidental discovery. better than a netlist. no vendor lock-in. gives you some help without pretending its 100% . no need to waste tokens on full image processing,etc. this dataset works better, is simpler, and compatible with local llms. can help save some time and give you another set of eyes before a release. works on win/mac/linux gratis!
