UPDATE: The State has withdrawn earlier Computer Misuse charges against lawyer Male Mabirizi, which had accused him of spreading malicious information and promoting hate speech, and instead filed fresh charges. Mabirizi now faces charges of broadcasting without a license and publishing false information about Chief Justice Flavian Zeija. He declined to take plea on the new charges and requested the recusal of Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa at Buganda Road Court. He has been remanded to Luzira Prison until April 15, 2026. The group has been on remand since August 1, 2025. Magistrate Sylvia Muwonge has sent them back to Luzira Prison, with sentencing set for April 17. However, their lawyer Samuel Wandera criticises the delay in sentencing, noting that some of the accused are students who have missed their studies at various universities.
