The report card from Harrisburg is in and the results are alarming. Just 12% of Harrisburg High School students are proficient in reading. Only 2% are proficient in math. And science proficiency is just 3%. Our students deserve better. It’s time for Pennsylvania to opt-in to the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit and give families real options at getting a quality education.

Ford Federal Direct Loan Program, federal Perkins Loan Programs, all not going anywhere. They're still gonna be alive and well, just moving to the Department of Treasury (This is BIG one) - All functions, programs and authorities of the Secretary of Education under the Individuals with Disability Education Act shall be transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services. This is your IEPs, your early intervention, your special education grants, your free special education services. Those all will just be moving to the Department of Health and Human Services (Not financially impacted) - Each authority and program of the Office of Indian Education of the Department of Education shall be transferred to the Department of Interior. As the school year is coming to a close, a new analysis shines another harsh spotlight on what’s being called a “learning recession” for American students. According to the latest National Education Scorecard, it's a problem that started long before the pandemic. The report found children had a steady decline in math and reading scores beginning all the way back to 2013, which happened to coincide with the rise of smartphones and social media. Compared to a decade ago, math scores today are down in 70 percent of school districts and reading scores are down in 83 percent. William Brangham discussed more with Thomas Kane, professor and faculty director of the Center for Education Policy Research.

In her view, many of them aren’t coming to school to learn. They don’t pay attention, follow directions, or participate. 🚨 2 years ago, I asked Portland educators, who were on strike at the time, why families were leaving Portland schools in record numbers. They solely blamed falling ceiling tiles and AC units. The truth: Parents are tired of political agendas replacing education while students fail and troubled students are allowed to run the classroom. As governor, the indoctrination of our children will officially end and parents & teachers will be empowered again. Oregon should offer the HIGHEST quality of education in the nation, and I intend to get us there.
