Religious conversion in India and laws against it remain under scrutiny. Every now and then, a PIL gets filed, along with talks of discrimination, minority rights, and demands for the suspension of such laws. Yet, 12 states in the country have these laws, with the ones in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand being the strongest of all. The punishment under these laws ranges from three to ten years, along with a fine between 10,000 and 3 lakh. But is it sufficient? Why don’t we have a nationwide law in force, a fast-track court system for trials, and legal aid for the victims? Are we waiting for the time when Hindu girls will be dragged out of their houses, taken to courts, and converted for nikah in front of their parents, as has happened in Pakistan? Here's what I think. Watch:

The FIR was filed on the basis of the complaint of the girl's brother, Devesh Chaudhary, states that the five girls belong to the Muslim community, attend the same tuition classes as his sister and force her to wear a burqa and convert to Islam. When the video went viral on 17th January, MORADABAD POLICE had tweeted, "The investigation revealed that the minor girl had worn the burqa solely to avoid her brother. No criminal activity or evidence of forced conversion was found. Based on a complaint filed by the family, an investigation is underway, and legal action is being taken against those who circulated the video with misleading allegations". When The Minor's elder brother filed a complaint and released a video, Moradabad Police again released a statement saying "A case has been registered at Bilari police station under the relevant sections in connection with the incident, and other legal proceedings are underway." In the viral video, It can be seen, As also mentioned in the earlier statement that the minor Hindu girl wasn't forced to wear it.
